What Liberals Believe

Purchased this book at a local thrift shop. Thousands of quotes. A few are so out there that they're to the left of me!

As a public service to out BGP membership, I think I will post a quote or two a day. As this is an equal opportunity site, I encourage my friends on the other side of the aisle to post a thread that aligns with their views.:thumb:

Some have forgotten the intent of this thread. This is a thread for those that align with liberal thinking to post quotes about those thoughts. There is a thread for those that align with conservative thoughts to do the same. These threads can be used to generate discussion between any members, but those that continue to not adhere to the original intent of these threads will not be happy.

"Each of us who is female, nonwhite or without land would have been guaranteed in 1776 the same voting rights as a horse. We owe a precious debt to Americans before us who refused to believe patriotism just meant going with the crowd."

"Liberty-loving liberals founded our country and enshrined its freedoms. Dedicated, fair-minded liberals ended slavery and brought women the vote. Hardworking liberals fought the goon squads and won workers' rights: the eight-hour day, the weekend, health plans and pensions."

"So strong is this propensity of mankind to fall into mutual animosities, that where no substantial occasion presents itself, the most frivolous and fanciful distinctions have been sufficient to kindle their unfriendly passions and excite their most violent conflicts."

Is this equivalent to setting up a safe place? And I would just like to ask why the threats. Why do they get to post anything they want and we're not allowed to comment or retort? How can you have an open and honest dialogue if I respond to somebody's post I might get banned? Or is this discrimination and it's a liberal only thread, conservatives will be punished for commenting?

I highly doubt this would ever follow from a string of endless facebook memes.

Virtually every step forward in our history has been a liberal initiative taken over conservative opposition: civil rights, Social Security, Medicare, rural electrification, the establishment of a minimum wage, collective bargaining, the Pure Food and Drug Act, and federal aid to education, including the land-grant colleges, to name just a few.* Many of these innovations were eventually embraced by conservatives only after it became clear that they had overwhelming public approval for the simple reason that almost every American benefited from them. Every one of these liberal efforts strengthened our democracy and our quality of life. George McGovern, 2002

That's why the Republican party has had a long history of supporting civil rights since the 1960s as opposed to Dems.

^ I don't care who you are; that's funny right there. Today's Republican Party ain't your the party of Lincoln; or even your granddaddy's Republican Party.

"There are those who say to you - we are rushing this issue of civil rights. I say we are 172 years late."
