Is it true that Coach Burnett has left Cooper?

Featured Replies

It has been confirmed that he is returning to Beechwood. Apparently told his lineman Monday at conditioning. Coach Burnett will be missed at Cooper but I do not expect them to take a step back by any means. Coach Borchers is one of the best in the area and will keep this train rolling forward. Best of luck to Coach B and the Cooper Jags as they move forward.

And to answer the question posted earlier, Coach Burnett coached the Offensive Line and MLB while at Cooper.

What reason did Coach Burnett give for leaving?

What reason did Coach Burnett give for leaving?

First off let me say, as myself being a former coach from Cooper, I have tremendous respect for Coach Burnett and I think he is a class act. He knows the entire game and always gives great "food for thought."

I'm assuming he left because of the travel to Cooper but those are my words and not his. He lives right next door to Beechwood so he can walk to practice everyday.

As a coach it's always very easy to let the game take your life over but I'd say the best lesson he taught me as a young coach was that you should never let this game come before your real family.

Traveling a few miles down the road is suddenly an issue, I ain't buying that one...

No controversy here Guru, if that is what you are trying to stir up. I have not spoken to Coach Burnett directly, but I know of a few factors that went into this decision.

The driving distance did play into it as Coach Burnett is retired and this was a long way out and back for him to travel. Also, his daughter just moved back up from Florida and enrolled his grandchild in the Beechwood district, I think, and they now live close to where he lives. The family factor is the biggest reason from what I am hearing. Also, from what I have heard, he is going to be the OC at Beechwood where he was the Co-OC with Borchers at Cooper. All of that with him living 3 seconds from Beechwood's campus all played into this.

I also believe, in my own opinion, that Beechwood is where Coach Burnett's heart is. He spent many years at Beechwood as the Assistant Principal, Football Coach, etc. and I think he really wants to be there. This part is my opinion but I would assume it has something to do with it as well.

If Derek Brilz is out at Beechwood that certainly would help explain everything.

Anyone?

Now that I can't speak too. Hopefully a Beechwood person can help out with that
