Mutual Respect Bowl

Who wins this game?

The tradition rich Ramblers or the defenders of the Holy Grail Tomcats?

I say Ashland wins due to home field advantage and the Raceland fans not being allowed to stand on the sidelines.

May have to use a neutral field...any takers?

IMO you have to give the Tomcats the edge, Raceland has looked impressive in their pre season and as I undertsand it Ashland looked MUCH better tonight against Ironton. I hope that it will be a good game and we have some decent (cooler) weather for it and can come out of it (both teams) w/o any injuries.. Like I said, I have to tab the Cats as the favorite but it would not "shock" me to see the Rams pull the upset. GO RAMBLERS! (by the way cubster, I liked the "mutual respect bowl" label that you used on this.......nice.:sssh:  )

    I think, judging form the Morgan Co. thread that cubster has started tailgating with those folks already again this year. Maybe that is where he got that "soup".

I think the rams are goin to do it!! GOOD LUCK

If Ashland is really a contender for the regional title this season, the Tomcats will rout the Rams. Raceland may make a game of it for a half, but I will be shocked if the Rams manage to stay with Ashland for a whole game.

There is no doubt that the Tomcats are the favorite, I do not believe that Raceland lay down and quit if they do get down.

If u havent heard the rams are here to play this year! They keep Pikeville, who is ranked 9 in 1a, scoreless!!! Dont be suprised if the rams walk out with a W!!!

I feel the same way about Raceland playing Ashland as I do about Johnson Central playing Paintsville. A 3A school with a strong football program should beat a 1A school with a strong football program almost every time because of the enrollment advantage they enjoy.

If Raceland walks out of a Putnam with a win I will not be surprised, I will be shocked. I know that it has happened before, but it has not happened in a very long time.

I don't expect that the Rams will quit. I do suspect that Ashland's depth will wear them down in the second half.

You may very well be right dino,a small class A school is usually at a disavantage when it comes to depth when playing a bigger school. Raceland has looked very impressive in the spring up through the pre season and the Tomcats were much improved in their last scrimmage compared to the first one. Like I said Ashland are always favored against us against us just bc of the reasons that you mentioned. I look for the Tomcats to have a very sucsessfull year and I hope that they do, all except for that first game . About the only thing that I can promise is that Raceland will show up Friday night and play hard.:thumb:

I will be pulling for the Rams Friday night. I am not an Ashland fan, but I do root for them anytime they play a team from outside of eastern Kentucky.

I love seeing local 1A teams taking down one of the big schools (Paintsville vs. JC being the exception to the rule) and I hope Raceland enjoys a great season, regardless of the outcome of Friday night's game.

Ashland may not have looked great in either of their scrimmages but look who they scrimmaged. Campbell County is a 4A NKY school who had the best D in NKY last season. Ironton is always a powerhouse, and even though they lost their long time coach still have boys who will come out and overpower you. Raceland on the other hand scrimmaged West Carter who's program isn't the greatest in the area. Pikeville has a very good program and is ranked but they're also just a 1A school, about the same size as Raceland.

I don't think that depth will factor into the game. I guarantee you that Raceland is a very well conditioned football team. Their type of offense requires it. I can not recall a game where Raceland was beat because of conditioning. In the Ashland/Raceland game last year the weather was a steambath and I though he Rams were the better conditioned team. I do not know the exact numbers for each team but I think the Tomcats have a few players that play both sides of the football. Turnovers will be the key. IMO
