Mercer / Danville / Jessamine scrimmage

Featured Replies

There has been talk about the two playing next season. Some of us are just a little excited about the Titans. Some too much. Trust me, there is much respect for Danville. I did think that it was pretty cool yesterday when Danville players started trash talking the Titans huddle before the start of the scimmage and Mercer responded by taking the intensity level far beyond a normal scrimmage. It was heated on both sides. From what I could tell, both squads looked to be title contenders.

Nice post..

Mercer finally has something to be excited about, everything looks to be in place, and there is great potential.

However, let's not confuse potential for tradition. Teams like Danville and Boyle have earned tradition with titles and consistency. Danville and Boyle will be the measuring stick by which all other programs measure themselves. I'm glad to see that Mercer players showed a willingness to "measure up" as evidenced in their attitude during a simple scrimmage.

My dream season this year would be Danville,Mercer, and Boyle winning the state title before the reclassification next season. If Mercer can continue to improve each week like they have in the first two scrimmages then they have as good of a shot to win state as anybody. Any Mercer fans making the trip to Lexington saturday evening for the first game? I'll be there. Has anyone seen what the new uniforms look like? I have no clue.

Offensive pass interference on the TD called back.

AS I SAID...Mercer did not allow an offensive score from ANY of their preseason scrimmage opponents. While Mercer certainly has some offensive weapons, their defense is doing the job.

Perhaps you should start another thread on should have, could have, would have, etc.....

or you could start a thread about how mercer hasnt allowed an offensive touchdown, but still managed to lose the scrimmage to a team that's a third the size of yours. lol

I've nerver seen a state champion with anymore than 15 games on their schedule. If a HS team could win or lose a scrim...wouldn't that make 17?

I was scouting and the crowd told me the JV QB put the ball on the ground and why didn't MCHS kick the ep? Do they always go for 2 and why was the JV QB in a spot like this?

Probably cause the rest of the freshman and sophomores were in the game when Danville actually started getting into the Mercer backfield. I don't have an answer for the EP's since they didn't even attempt EP's in the first scrimmage. I don't really understand the first paragraph of your post.

EXACTLY....scrimmages are just tune ups for games. I simply made a point about Mercer's seemingly overlooked defense (that HASN'T been scored upon by any of their three scrimmage opponents.) Seemed simple enough at the time, until we have to explore should have, could have, would have, but DIDN'T! Besides... to say you won a contest you can't stop it as soon as you go ahead ;) Anyway....

Mercers kicker was not at the scrimmage from what I'm told. Plus scrimmages are a great time to practice 2 point conversions. As for the QB in question, he is one of three vying for the starting job. Coach Jaggers went three deep in several positions, by alternating series. I assume to see how they would respond in gamelike conditions.

There isn't any need for trash talking. It was a great scrimmage for both clubs. The score didn't really matter. The things that did matter were that both teams got to run some plays in a scrimmage that was as close to an actual game that you could get. It was two head coaches that are great friends getting together with their teams having a little fun. Mercer is a brand new team and they are going to get better every week. They are still trying to figure out where to best use people. The # of players on your team doesn't mean squat. Danville will have a great year and so will Mercer. Why can't we be happy that there is another team in OUR area that can help strengthen our claim to be the heart of kentucky high school football?

One poster said something along the lines of "Mercer won't see anyone who runs this offense all season". Am I in error, or doesn't Danville run the wishbone? The wishbone also happens to be Belfry's primary set.

Probably referring to opponents on Mercer's regular schedule.

Well, I guess he must have been wrong. Maybe he got caught up in the moment. Those things happen. Maybe he meant we wouldn't see anybody run it as well as Danville.

The Titans had a TD called back also on a holding penalty or did you just foget about that one and just remember the offensive pass interfrence by the kid that caught the ball.

Danville and Mercer didn't run the wishbone against each other they worked on their other offense which Highlands ran a couple of years ago when they beat Boyle in 2004.Both of Mercer's kickers were at a soccer tournament in Oldham County. They have a SR. and a sophomore soccer style kicker.

nah, my last memory was the final score.

Danville scored on the JV. Good for them. I think I see a little dissapointment that you didn't get your usual blowout over Mercer. Welcome to the new era. I normally don't respond like this. But, we will get better every week. This is a brand new team that will only get better. I know it was a scrimmage but the intensity let everybody know it was far more then that. Danville was trying to make a statement and they didn't.

they made their statement. they made their statement by outscoring an opposition that 2 platoons. The players for the ads go both ways and play special teams. Their 1/3 of your size and the mighty Titans mustard up a 1 point loss. Hip Hip Hooray! I know this was a game played by a very motivated mercer county team. And why not? They have only been terrible for how long? This was a great oppurtunity for your squad, but....

Seriously, i wish you guys the best. Coach Jaggers is awesome. He will take you guys places you only dreamed about before. Im just glad it turned out the way it did, because we all know that if Mercer won then everyone in Mercer Co. would have talked it up. I know its a scrimmage. I could care less about the score, because when it comes to analyzing an opponent and scheming what they do by putting your own players in positions to succeed week in and week out, Harp is the man. Scrimmages tell how your players will respond in competition. Mercer responded. Good for them! An actual game compared to a scrimmage is a little different. Good luck Titans. Smack the Rebels around!
