Love the '70's but the '80's were pretty darn good too. Didn't know quite what to make of the guy the first time I saw George O' Dowd. I just know by the time the first chorus had come and gone, he had me hooked. I'm sending this one out to my dear and brilliant friend, BBallFan.

I had never seen Culture Club before and a few weeks ago they were scheduled to play an outdoor show at Jack's Casino in Cincy. A buddy of mine was going with his sister and nieces.

 

I had always wondered just what you could hear if you stood outside of the fences, and since I had nothing going on that evening I thought that it would be a good time to find out.

 

Just as the show was beginning I spotted a gap in the fence where although I couldn't see the stage, I could still see the big screens and hear the music perfectly.

 

I debated just how long I was going to stand there looking through the gap, and during the 3rd song by total coincidence I saw my friend Jeff walk by. I called out his name but he didn't hear me over the music, so I got the attention of a guy standing on the other side of the fence to grab my friend. Jeff thought that it was a hoot that I was outside, and had even spotted him.

 

The guy who helped me grab him just by chance had an extra ticket that he handed to me through the gap. I said how much do you want for it? He said just take it. I got through the gates no problem, and insisted on buying the guy a beer.

 

I couldn't believe how everything had come together for me to end up inside with a free ticket. The show was great and Boy George's voice didn't sound aged at all except for the fact that he was obviously pacing himself to avoid wearing himself out. They played all the hits that you'd expect to hear, and the weather was perfect and the first pleasant night after a long heat wave.

 

I don't expect to be this lucky in the future, but I very well just might hang outside of the fence again if I happen to dig the artist and take my chances. I saw ticket sellers wandering around so who knows, at the last minute they might just be willing to sell a ticket for a song.

I'm quite certain that most every woman I ever dated made it known that "Pretty Woman" was her favorite chick flick. So you can imagine how many times I had to watch that movie, which was okay because I got to hear Marie's voice again. I'm pretty sure that I never made it known to any of these gals just how often I had daydreamed about Marie Fredriksson. I thought she was one of the most gorgeous women I had ever seen. Exquisite... a tapestry of sight and sound... perfection... art in the form of life.

Cancer has taken a toll on this lovely lady. A brain tumor in '02 nearly took her life and made reading, writing, and counting difficult for her . Today, she is nearly blind in one eye and quite frail. I prefer to remember her as she was here, when I had such a huge crush. Life can be beautiful.... but it can also serve as a cruel reminder of how vulnerable we really are.
