More of a joke, when Coach Hicks put his son in who is an 8th grader before Soph/Jr. On his bench.

 

Also - both head coaches have sins that play for their school and Dad.

 

Ruthsatz is a pure baller.

Hicks son - not so much yet.

Yes - was nice to see him get a little time. Kid has a bright future.

I saw it live. No inside play, plays outside the 3 pt line had very little leadership.

 

It's hard to lead when your on the bench the last 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter and the entire 4th quarter.

This is my take on the game.

 

Conner had one scorer on the floor...Scott who Cov Cath pressured and denied. Connley and Garnett had a hard time with the pressure they received and had very few open shots. Conner missed some easy one's but almost every shot had someone's hand in their face it seemed. Scott did well but needed someone else to hit shots so he could drive the lane...I think Conner maybe made two 3's in the first half? I agree with the earlier post about lots of outside the arc motion but nothing really happening inside. I agree that Conner still gets beat with Spencer but not as bad...I thought it would be a 13-17 point spread too for Cov Cath. I'm not sure if I press Cov Cath as much either, they got some easy buckets and Conner I think had 1 steal and forced another turnover with it.

 

Cov Cath, very detailed on their plays though looked a little sloppy a couple of times. Coach Ruthsatz would pull the player talk through what he wanted and later put them back in. On defense Cov Cath was all over. They worked harder than Conner on defense and it showed in the final score. In the pre-season coaching interview of Cov Cath one thing Ruthsatz said that really stuck with me is "everyone knows their role on our team". It showed last night as when they wanted to score the ball was in CVH's hand and he usually scored.

 

As far as the coach's son view point. It is a benefit of being the coach. Is it right or wrong...doesn't matter it is what it is at this point. I think Ruthsatz has improved and did some nice things. Hicks, though over matched I give him credit...AJ had him on the block and Hicks battled and drew the offensive foul. In the second half Hicks got more time and made 8th grade mistakes on shots, but he was being aggressive and that is more than some of the other Conner players were doing.

 

Michael had a hard time due to no one else being able to score. Coach Hicks got on him pretty hard as he was "walking" off the floor not jogging and we didn't see him again. At that point it really didn't matter Conner was out of it. I did think Michael did a good job of directing the offense and trying to get players in the right spot, Cov Cath just had the better team.

 

Play of the night though (for Conner) not mentioned yet was Alec Saffel's rejection of Jake Walters on the block.
