How has it sunk so low? Got 60 year old guys out there that cannot get up and down the floor calling games. they do have about 4 that are very good but the rest need their rest!

As a certified member of the KHSAA officiating crew, it would be improper to comment on specific teams, regions, and/ or plays. However officiating has changed over the course of the last 2-3 years allowing the "freedom of movement". Was there a specific type of play(s) that you felt are being called improperly?

It is like every profession I guess as you have good ones and bad ones and no really good way to get rip of the ones that cannot do the job anymore as there is such a shortage of officials since they went to a three man system that they will use anyone that will pay their dues. Some do need to slow down and not try to work every night as it shows in their work. I saw some over the break working 4 games in a day at 60 plus years old??????

Of course there's a way to get rid of the ones who can't do the job anymore - join the ranks so there are more to choose from. Of course, you better have some thick skin as basketball officials are bar none, the most abused officials in any sport.

 

BTW - I know plenty of 60 year old guys who can still run circles around the young whippersnappers.

What a terrible gig...watching a bunch of old guys who can't see or hear struggle up and down the floor....you're probably missing some really good basketball, just sayin'
