December 19, 201510 yr You can't tell me Mark Stoops can fired his self-chosen offensive coordinator after just one season, with the university having three years left on a contract where they owe somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5 million. I say that is not his call. I do know that several years ago, UK had an offensive coordinator that the head coach wished to keep employed, even though his offenses had not been productive. Ultimately, that offensive coordinator was forced out by an athletic director. Obviously the athletic director arranged for and approved the significant buyout. There are too many similarities in this situation and our current situation for me to not think this all went down in the same fashion. Oh, by the way, the offensive coordinator was Ron Hudson. Remember?

Remember? Think what you want. But Mitch hired Stoops, by doing so he should let Stoops run the show. Which I imagine he is, which is why Stoops has been able to hire or fire whomever he wants. I don't think for a second that Mitch had anything to do with Stoops firing anyone. If he did, he needs fired himself.
December 19, 201510 yr Actually to clarify, Mitch is the one that does the hiring. That said, the head coach should be able to fire anyone on the staff if they have good reason to. Even if Mitch gave said coach an absurd buyout.

December 19, 201510 yr It is not hard to figure out what is happening during this offseason for UK football. Changes were demanded. Yes, by coach Stoops.
December 20, 201510 yr Yes, by coach Stoops. Credibility of Stoops program was, and is, highly in jeopardy. Barnhart probably did not have to tippy-toe in the discussions. Believe Stoops was free to make the decisions, but obvious changes had to be made. How deep, and who were probably Stoops. OC was blatantly obvious (disfunctional and I personally think it had little to do with PT). What a risky hire to bring an OC in that had practically no experience play calling and let him cut his teeth on SEC defenses. INSANITY..Two other underperforming areas were offensive line and the receiving corps. Maybe the departure of one will be enough. Schlarman has had productive lines in the past. Hope the OL's performance was just an exception and not reflective of what he can produce (Barker will need more help the PT got this year).
