NKY Freshman Basketball updates

Featured Replies

Just looking to see how some of the freshman teams are doing around NKY.

Haven't heard or read much about the following:

Simon Kenton

Ryle

Campbell County

Scott

Cooper

NCC

From other post it sounds like Cov Cath is the team to beat. Holy Cross is off to a good start and after watching Cooper play Conner last week they seem to have a nice team made up of Camp Ernst and Ockerman kids. Highlands sounds like they have a nice core group still.

Conner is 2-2. #13, Ginn is having a nice season leading the way in scoring for the young cougar squad.

Any other players doing well or getting JV minutes?

Covcath is very deep and has two kids playing up, Thelen and Davin.

Cooper is OK, but they would be better if Blaine Walters wasn't strictly JV and varsity.

At Ryle, I was very surprised and how many kids they had playing up. Besides Rankin, I think Schmidt and Niemi were playing up (maybe more) and brome elk left for Walton, so they look very little like the gray teams of the last three years.

Campbell county looks very strong. All freshmen are playing freshman, and only Drew Wilson is dressing JV and varsity.

Haven't seen Holmes yet.

At Highlands, the only starters from the last couple of years are Starkey and King. New starters Grady Cramer, Tristan Thompson and Nate Roberts can all play .... I think they could be very good if they play relaxed and at a quick pace. Good athletes there.

Walton picked up a lot of size with Miles and Bromwell, and they've always had good guard play with jones and Grubbs. They should be pretty good.

Simon Kenton has the same basic squad I think including Sergent.

Beechwood has a couple of kids playing up, Castleman and Schilling, but they should have some size and good guard play (Bieger playing up and Destherage).

Holy Cross, like CovCath, is meshing together kids from several different schools. Play Walton on 12/14. Should be a pretty good game.

Brossart Mustangs are 2-2 with wins over Ludlow and Holmes, and contentious losses to St. Henry and Dixie Heights. They play Scott on Monday in Taylor Mill at 7pm in a key 37th District Seeding contest.

Freshman Bryan Duffy is strictly playing JV and Varsity.

We are 15 strong, and heavily populated with capable guards. There is good parity across the board. Presently playing without post player Derek McCormick, who is out with a broken wrist.

Our ultimate goal is not necessarily to win all of our games, although that would be nice. If these guys can grasp the fundamentals of our defensive scheme, and become fluid in our drill-work as they move on to the next level next year, while experiencing some success along the way, then we will have had a productive season.

Pretty good analysis and thanks for the update.

Highlands lost 2 of their leading scorers in Macke to Holy Cross and Finn to Cincy St. X. Macke I believe is avg 15 pts a game for the Indians and Finn is avg 10 pts and 6 rebounds for X. That is a lot of production to lose but the Birds still have some very talented players and will be fine.

The addition of Roberts will definitely help and Starkey needs to get healthy.

Birds over Beechood tonight in Ft Mitchell.

Heard WV over HC last night and SK over Connor.
