Shutting Off 4G LTE on Android

Featured Replies

4G LTE coverage is worthless but my LG G4 still constantly tries to connect to it. Online I read where I can turn off 4G and always go to 3G but so far, no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

Your phone will always connect to 4G. Especially with most 3G towers going away. What carrier if you dont mind me asking?

Verizon. Right now the phone is on 3G but as soon as it detects the slightest 4G connection, it switched to it but the strength of the signal is not strong enough to up or download anything. The phone will stay with 4G for several minutes before finally downgrading back to 3G but will soon enough go back to 4G and I just have to wait it out again.

On web forums, posters often talk about "switching" down to 3G to save battery but I cannot find this option or an app that does it on LG phones.

Other phones in the house on Verizon only using 3G as well? Or is it only yours? Could be a phone issue or SIM card issue.

I live alone, no other mobile devices. Sorry it took so long to reply, could not get out of 4G again.

Not sure what your wanting to do is possible, although I wouldn't be the one to ask. But I do have a question, is your 4g consistently bad wherever you go or is it only when you are at home?

The reason I ask is if it is only when your at home then you are probably nearly out of reach of the closest tower. If its bad when moving around in other areas, it may be a problem with the phone itself.

I don't know if you have hisgh speed internet at home. But assuming you do, I would just connect via wifi and not even use 4g at home. I get excellent 4g speeds at home, but still keep the phone connected to WiFi while at home to conserve 4g bandwidth for when I need it away from home.

^ Is what I was looking to ask. If its where ever you go or is just at home? If its everywhere and you're on Verizon it's likely the phone or SIM. If its just home its your house.

Settings/mobile network/4g setting, least how it works on mine. I do the same, turn off 4g cause its terrible more than not.

I had Wi-Fi back when work paid for it. When I decided to take over the account, the provider goofed it up so I dropped it and said I will just use my phone data package, that isn't working to well hence this thread, lol

I've never heard of 4G not being better than 3G. 4G to me feels like I'm on WiFi. I have AT&T though.

That's generally the case. I have Verizon and their 4G service in the Ashland area is outstanding, its comparable to my 24mb/s dsl service at home. I suspect that @Bert is right on the edge of the tower's range when at home and its causing his problems.

Next time you are away from home and in an area with a decent 4g signal shut off your WiFi and see if you have any success with 4g. If you do, then I imagine your home is in a dead zone. If you still don't have success I'd take your phone to your local carrier and tell them whats going on.
