They may have went to Collins for four years but was that the district they were in? Yes it has balanced out now, and Shelby has done a good job weathering the storm.

 

Yes, that team played together since 6th grade at Shelby West Middle. SCPS does not allow students to attend schools outside their district, unless their parents are an employee.

There are a few transfer for various reasons but no more standard transfer.

The first year Brandon Cresap was a Shelby transfer. He went with coach Lucas and his passing attack. Who could blame him. There were a couple of others but that team lost in regional final. Manica was not a transfer, he lived in Shelby district. The west end of the county has always been stronger in football based on eAst/west middle school results. They still need to adjust boundary to balance athletics but not sure when that will happen.

Regardless, that 2nd and 3rd year was a great group of kids just like the JR to be group at Collins and the sophomore to be group at Shelby. Untill there is an administration change at east, Shelby athletics will consistanly be behind. They hate athletics. However, they did hire a good basketball coach who loves working with kids.

No. The team that won the first state championship was the fastest to the state title. It took them only one season.

Very true. That's starting to balance out now. I'm anxious to see how successful both programs are now that they are each on pretty solid footing.

I need to clarify something I posted. Cresap was not a transfer. The Sr's of the year of the split was allowed to stay at Shelby to finish their Sr year. Cresap along with his teammates that lived in the Collins district chose to go ahead and go play for Collins. There was no transfers in that group and to my knowledge there has never been a Shelby transfer play for Collins. Sort of botched that up.
