Highlands 47 Scott 42

Featured Replies

HHS ESCAPES Taylor Mill with a victory. Scott came out with a vengance and HHS played a very lackluster first half and looked like they shouldn't have even have come out of the locker room. Scott really attacked the Birds offensively and defensively in the first half. If the scoreboard wasn't working and I was only watching the game, I would have thought Scott was killing the Birds in the first half. But somehow the Birds managed to stay close by half time.

The Birds played better in the second half and went up 10. Just when you got the feeling the Birds may pull away, Scott hit some threes, got a few steals and made a game of it again. They did a great job fighting back. They got to within 1 (I think) and Leigh for HHS went out of the game with an injury. Scott looked like they may be able to do some damage, but the HHS were able to hold it together and hit enough free throws at the end to pull it off. Wasn't pretty by any means.

Scott played without Kallmeyer (injured hand) and HHS without Coffey.

I'm impressed with Scott's athletes. Some really nice players. Now that we don't have to play them anymore, I can say this. I'm really surprised Scott doesn't run more offense through Celphane (sp). Really nice player. Stapleton is a really nice player as well, but I think she could benefit from a little more structure. Scott doesn't seem to run a lot of sets. It seems to be more of a "let them play" and that hurts them sometimes. Some bad decisions and bad shots cost them at times tonight. With a little more structure, they could be really good. I'm just glad they haven't figured that out yet! I'm also surprise the senior Dant doesn't play more. I love her energy and strength under the basket. I know she got in some early foul trouble today, but there were times in the second half I was questioning why she wasn't in the game.

As for HHS, they better get stronger and play with a little more spunk. They are not going to walk on the court and beat anyone. But if they play well, they can beat anyone! I do think they are missing their leader and PG. She returns Monday and that's when I'll really start judging this team. The newcomers played well again, but will benefit by having another excellent ball handler in the lineup by Monday. I'm not worried about the Birds. They will definitely lose some along the way, but should be primed by districts. At one time tonight, the Birds had 4 freshman on the floor at the same time. Once that class gets the varsity jitters out, they will help with the depth of this team. They played very well while they were in the game.

Anyway, it's way early and tough to judge anything at this point. Not enough sampling for anyone to say who is good and who isn't.

Good luck to both teams. Scott will make some noise for sure and I'm just glad we snuck out with a win.

Congrats to HHS on the win and to Scott for making it tough on them. Scott has some potential to make some noise in their region. I won't get fooled about an HHS loss and close game. Not having experienced senior point on floor matters.

Not sure what you mean by fooled. But agree about the impact of senior players, though Kallmeyer's absence from Scott was probably more impact full on this game than Coffee's absence from HHS. Best of luck to both girls on speedy recoveries and both teams the rest of season. Be nice to battle again down the road with everybody healthy.

Agree on impact of Kallmeyer being out having impact on Scott. By not being fooled, I meant don't underestimate HHS. Good experienced point will make everyone on the floor better.

Definitely missing kallmeyer for Scott is huge and I hate injuries, especially on seniors. I can't stand it! She brings a lot to the table for Scott and is severely missed.

However the missing pg for HHS is huge. She has been their leader on the floor since her 8th grade and the older she got, the more impactful it is missing her. She is their vocal leader as well as a lot of their grit. She hasn't scored much the last two years because she has been hampered by torn cartiledge in her shooting wrist the last two years. But now that has been repaired (the reason she was out). But she brings a ton of leadership, grit, Bball IQ, defense and rebounding to the table for HHS. And hasn't needed to score the last two years so people tend to forget how much she means to this group. The ones that know her well (HHS fans, hardwood fan, farbeyond driven, triplesevens etc) know just how valuable she is. Okay, yes, she's my kid. And I very seldom say much about her on here. I let her play do the talking. But they would all tell you the same thing!!! Lol! She (and another girl that will join the team soon) will make a huge difference upon their return.

Its sooooo true. everyone measures good by points scored. but its players like this who allow others to score. Any good player can score a lot if the system allows them to yet its hard to find the player who leads with IQ, leadership, defense, making the right decisions etc. without this others scoring goes way down. fact

I knew that and take nothing away from her in the least. Only that she is 1 of 4 seniors on a team where most have been starters for a couple of years, verses 1 of 2. Nothing but respect for her RC.

Truth be told RC they are probably carbon copies of each other cause everything you said could be said or has been about the other also.

Heard Kallmeyer broke her hand.. Praying for a speedy recovery! Hate seeing people having to sit out their senior year! Does anyone know how long she will be out??

Oh I know that. Was just telling others why her return (not because she's my daughter) will mean so much to this particular team.

Have the Lady Birds not played since this game? Or has a gag order been put in place? Just checking as I like to follow the progress of Haley aka "DB Cooper" Coffey in her return to the hardwood.
