He blew his back out they wouldnt let him finish... yeah ge can old timers games all he wants... but when u rupture disc got to have surgery at university of ky... back surgery... they say your done... not on our watch... big difference in allumni bowl and d1 football regulations.

The consistency is truly amazing. My Jr. year we traveled from Lawrence Co all the way to Mayfield for the final 4. Longest playoff drive ever! They beat us 21-18. I remember reading at some point around there that they had been to 24 of the last 26 Final 4's or something close to that! That was all the way back in 1991! They haven't degressed since then! It's amazing!

I think they have to have a pretty special youth/MS feeder program! They had William Murral (fastest kid in the state) and Barnes then. Both went to Eastern.

 

Murrell and Barnes were 2 of the best that ever played at Mayfield, but, don't seem to get the same pub as a lot of other kids who've been thru the program.. Marcus Moss, Danny Fisher, Danny Kirby, Michael Bright, John Redd, Gerome Owens, Derrick Parrott, Terrell Starks, to name a few that seem to get talked about more, but, imo, no better than Barnes and Murrell were..

There was a list of D-1 players produced by each school on here earlier this year and Mayfield had an awful lot, there were some with more but we ranked near the top. We rarely have D-1 talent though compared to our success. We do produce a lot of kids playing places like Murray State. I looked at their roster last year and there were more Mayfield kids on it than from any other high school at 6. I know there are 2 starters and 3 that get minutes this year for Murray State. This year and last there was no D-1 talent on the team. Just a lot of average or a little above that are to small to play college but are solid high school players

 

The thing that has impressed me about Mayfield through the years is that the Machine keeps going. Sure, there might be ONE year where the Machine needs fine tuning, but that's what happens when you throttle the engine all the time. HEY that's why they have won 13+ State Titles ( I don't know, maybe some of the Mayfield people can help me).

Do a spin off for BEST LB's. I think Mayfield is know for their great RB and LB play over the years.

I think most of the credit goes to coaching and community support. Lets be honest, the talent isn't overflowing at MF. The varsity roster numbers aren't that great. But these coaches continually find ways to maximize player potential. They do a great job of helping players find a role (what they are good at) and tapping into that.

Community loves MF football. If I had to guess, at least 70% of the little league and middle school coaching staff are former players imparting their knowledge and experience on these kids.
