Deming 2006-2007

New Coach Jaimie Johnson takes over.

Starters returning Travis "T-Mass" Massey, Billy Graves(out last year due to a stress fracture), Nathan Mitchell

Starters gone; Lyle Hendricks, Eric Burns, Jordan Massey

Proable Replacements are Jarrod White, Caleb Curtis, Justin Hendricks. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the King twins in the lineup too even though they're just 8th graders I watched them play against other varsity teams and they didn't look intimidated at all. And maybe 1 more 8th grader.

Id say 12 wins will be a great start for coach Johnson if he can get it.He young and inexperinced but should bring some energy and fire to the Devils.A trip the the 10th region would be great but id say they wont get out of the district unless its a random draw im not sure maybe you could answer.

Unless his players can step it up play like I've seen them play in their Junior High School days, this could be another disappointing season, like last year, interesting the game they had against Mason County last year even though The Devils lost that game it was one of the best games they played. It seemed to me if they had played like that all season last year they might have had a better season.

You know that blue brings out the best in everyone.

Coach Johnson will do a very good job at Deming. He will bring passion, energy, and enthusiasm to a young and talented group of kids. The community of Mt. Olivet always support their basketball teams and Johnson will play an exciting brand of basketball that they will love. His youngness and inexperience may work for him and the program. Small schools always seem to enjoy a burst of energy from a new coach and that usually translates to W's.

Johnson's father was a respected and successful varsity girls coach at Bracken Co. in the early 80's. If this Johnson follows suit, Deming will reap the benefits!

:thumb: Sometimes all the players have to do is read BGP also to boost their morale or get angry enough to put a woupin on a team just to show people that they can play, Deming has done that in the past, too.

Everybody IMO, likes to see how they would matchup against a successful program, like Mason County, to see if there's progress with their team.:thumb:

Comparing success at Mason Co. versus Deming is bit of a reach. Deming should measure themselves against other small class A schools, not the big fish in the 10th region pond!

You gotta play 'em sooner or later. Deming showed that they could play with the "big boys" in last year's tourney.

In terms of enrollment (big fish), there are several schools in the 10th that are considerably larger than Mason County. Clark County is nearly twice as large, Montgomery County, Harrison County and even Pendleton County are bigger.

:thumb: It always seems no matter how good or how bad any small school like Deming does someone always have some negative feedback in someway, but we take it all in stride.

Good luck to Coach Johson and the Devils this season... look forward to those games against your alma mater. As for the "big fish" , Campbell County is probably the biggest school in the reason and theyve had zero sucess lately, for what its worth...

Your's too, I saw BC play against Augusta earlier here in July, Hall, Hamilton, Cooper looked good.

Big fish has nothing to do w/the size of the school, that is Mason Co. is the most recognized 10th region team in the state and has had the most success in this region since 1990.

I am not throwing negative feedback at Deming, I have family that has graduated from there, nice community. However, Deming should never strive to be what Mason Co. is in basketball b/c it is unrealistic! Strive to compete every game, sure, and strive to be a top Class A team! Opportunities for the small schools to compete w/the bigger schools are far and few between.

A couple of seasons ago their was a "discussion" when they were winning a few games more then expected, then came the questions of why they weren't playing the "bigger" schools then they scheduled some "bigger" schools like Montgomery County, Campbell County, and then the seeding of the district came up after they went back to the 38th district, and why they didn't play the top teams there like Harrison County and Pendleton County, thats the negative feedback I was referring to.

Maybe it's only realistic for Deming to first try to compete first with the "A" schools and try to that measure of success there first.

I remeber a time St. Pat was beating teams like Mason County and they're a "A" school like Deming, Augusta, etc., so it can be done.

The small schools can compete there is no doubt about that. However, it is very rare that a small INDEPENDENT school maintains that success over a long period of time. That type of success usually comes form the small-private schools, such as Bishop Brossart in the N. KY area especially their girls program when Ray Kues was the Head Coach. They dominated the Class "A" 10th region, winning 6 straight Class "A" regional titles and I believe 7 of 8. That success did translate into the entire region and they won a regional title during that span. With the small independent schools like Augusta, Deming, Bellevue, Dayton, etc. these types of schools usually enjoy success in cycles.
