PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 @POTUS: Protecting the American people is my top priority. With our 65 global partners, we're leading the campaign to degrade and destroy ISIL.
PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 @POTUS: We also win this fight with our values. America can ensure our own security while welcoming refugees desperately seeking safety from ISIL.
PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 @POTUS: We will provide refuge to at least 10,000 refugees fleeing violence in Syria over the next year after they pass the highest security checks.
PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 @POTUS: Here, our focus is giving safe haven to the most vulnerable Syrians – women, children, and survivors of torture.
PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 @POTUS: Welcoming the world’s vulnerable who seek the safety of America is not new to us. We've safely welcomed 3 million refugees since 1975.
PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 @POTUS: Slamming the door in the face of refugees would betray our deepest values. That's not who we are. And it's not what we're going to do.
PurplePride92 Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Well said. He can be my POTUS for another four years. I am very proud of him.
TexasRanger Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Hey pp92, Are you on pr payroll? If not Obama owes you some cash. #PrWarrior

Have they laid a definitive plan out of how they are going to do this? Just wondering, but I always questioned the viability of running a background check, or vetting, or whatever you want to call it, when the country these refugees are coming from haven't kept a record of them.

The way I understand it the whole process takes 15 months to 3 years to complete. It involves biometrics, facial recognition software and other things. If terrorists posing as refugees are being caught that tells me something in the process is working. I do admittedly trust the system more than a majority of people. For me personally I support the cause to free the innocent and hope for the best. I've never been a fan of canceling the greater good over the potential of a small amount of hazards. IMO it seems like it would be easier to sneak into the US at the Rio Grande than it would be to pose as a terrorist. They are looking for terrorists amongst the refugees. They aren't looking for terrorists at the Rio Grande.

They aren't looking for terrorists at the Rio Grande. Thanks for the added information, but that I have my doubts that a system, of any type, is able to pick out potential terrorists based on facial signatures. Because average refugees are being pressure into terrorism every day (ie: ISIS holding a family hostage and threatening death if the other family memeber doesn't join) I just fail to see how a data base will be able to keep up with every new potential terror suspect. I don't think I am conveying what I want in the way I want, but I am going to throw out a hypothetical situation to more clearly describe my concerns. For example, if ISIS took my family hostage and forced me into terrorism, the government would have no knowledge of this. How would they be knowing to look for me on surveillance? I am sure there are more levels to the system they are intending on using, but I have my concerns about the rate in which any system is able to keep up with the fluidity of terrorism.

I've never been a fan of canceling the greater good over the potential of a small amount of hazards. You can say that again. I have no faith that the government will vet, clear or monitor this situation properly. To do so would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming. I think it's a mistake to allow 10,000 refugees into the country. On the other hand, I think it's a mistake to strictly prohibit any from entering the country. I don't know the middle ground, nor do I know the appropriate response, but I do think "we" are opening ourselves up to terrorist attacks by allowing the refugees in.
