There are professional games in Japan all the time. Surely they could have found a suitable basketball court to get the game in. Why go to Japan anyways?

It's the military game. They were on an air craft carrier a couple of years ago so I guess this was still an improvement.

Yeah which makes this one even more of a head scratcher.

The game was in Okinawa, Japan on a main Marine Corps base. I personally was station on that base and can tell you the gyms were not meant for college basketball games. If we went there for pickup games, every door to the outside would have to be open to keep it even remotely cool inside. No AC at all in the entire gym.
