Not sure how it was created but like GB32 said, the EKC has been around for a long time. Several teams have came and went, but alot of these teams have been in it for years.

Never has been and never will. It's the oldest conference in KY.

So could someone explain to me what the NEKC was/is?

Don't know the duration of the conference but want to say some period 1990-2010 there was an NEKC that included Ashland, Russell, Boyd, Greenup, and some others. I think it showed up after a Kentucky-Ohio conference (KYOVC or OVC, V for Valley) that included the Ironton Tigers and Portsmouth Trojans.
