@deray: Did Carson just say that every time the minimum wage is raised that it creates problems in the black community? #GOPDebate

@sleepygirI: @deray apparently 19.8% of black MEN don't (?) have a job because of the minimum wage.. I'm confused as to the correlation

@ElectRobJohnson: @deray Yes. Yes he did.

  • Author

@JDouglasDavis: @deray Ben Carson won't rest until he's labeled everything as either being a problem in the black community or worse than slavery.

  • Author

@lisbesailin: @deray "black teenagers don't have jobs because wages are too high" unbelievable

  • Author

@thebackwardlime: @deray just one more example of how out of touch with the Black community he is smh

  • Author

@blacknerdgoddes: @deray yup. Because apparently being poor & not having access to jobs is our own fault. #GOPDebate

@bryski_: @deray oh and that only 19% of black teens are TRYING to get a job. Yup he said that.

  • Author

@Bpenick11: @deray odd. maybe he meant resulting layoffs and the like disproportionately affect minorities. Or maybe he's just speaking nonsense

  • Author

@_melaninhippie_: @deray He did! He insinuated that black teens KNOW they won't be paid higher wages and when wages increase they won't look for jobs....

  • Author

@longgoneblond: @deray made it sound like he'd be doing the black community a favor....I think - - sheesh

I think that is it.

Jobs in entry level positions are lost when the minimum wage is raised - that is just the Adam Smith fact of the situation. And the entry level positions usually have more racial minorities. So when the pink slips comes it usually racial minorities that will get hit statistically worse.

So lets assume someone makes 7.50 and the minimum wage is raised o 10.00 an hour.

It 'only' cost the employer 2.50 more per hour - supposedly.

First 2.50 is a 33% increase in salary. 33%! That is a big hit to the salary pool that is a major business cost/cash flow component.

Is it only 33%? No. FICA and Medicaid that employer kicks in goes up around another 20 cents per hour. So really, hit is more around 36% increase. The employer is now paying around $10.80 with the hidden taxes accounted for.

People need to understand that $10.80/hour will buy white collar overseas labor easily. As measely as it is its the new 'global' minimum wage - even for 'professional jobs'.

Every time the minimum wage goes up - along with hidden taxes and HC insurance, etc. it makes off-shore look that much better - even for the companies that have resisted the trend.

And of coarse , off shore, in addition to being a 3rd world economy where you can often retire on $1000 US, there is no labour law, no environmental law, in fact, employee separation means separating them from their heads in some countries.
