Habib
History will not be kind to Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld (and Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, and the rest of them).

For a long time I've thought that history will be kind to him.

Habib
What about GWB? I don't know. I think despite being president, Bush comes off as something of a bystander in a lot of ways. While he was the "decider," Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest were the "architects" of what has amounted to a string of the most disastrous foreign policy decisions in American history. And while Bush has some positive qualities to him - his seemingly good-natured personality, for instance - Cheney and the rest have exhibited precisely zero humility or capacity for introspection in the wake of their mistakes. They are incorrigible.

Randy Parker
I've always thought GWB would have history shine favorably on him. I think it will to an extent, but the trifecta of Iraq, Katrina, & economic collapse will negate a lot of his positives associated with 9/11. I do think he's a very likable guy, which helps. And the fact that he stays away from publicly commenting on his successor is to his benefit too.
