My only complaint about Applebee's Park ...

I guess I'm in the minority on this one. I thought is was an awesome atmoshpere all around. You felt like it was something special with all the great music, video clips, and the promo gags. Ask any player that participated and I would wager that they thought it was a nice atmosphere to compete in.

I hope it always stays at Applebee's. IMO

I agree, I loved the atmosphere it's what makes the kids feel they're somewhere besides that high school field.

No one is saying it's not a great atmosphere and that the players didn't love it. Simply that there seemed to be too many distractions messing with the flow of the game — to the point that some players seemed blindsided by it, as though there was no warning.

If they weren't warned, it would have been the coaches fault. Guidelines that StatmanHensley quoted were laid out in the handouts each staff received. Surely a player wouldn't expect a state finals tourney would have been played out like a mere game.

I heard that Daviess Co's coach felt like it was a distraction. He was trying to talk to his team, many of whom were focused on an ice cream eating contest right outside of the dugout.

I think several coaches would like to see the event moved to UK.

You mean to tell me a boy gets to the state-8 and he's distracted by an ice cream eating contest? All the talking in the world by a coach isn't going to help IMO. Little league maybe, high school? NO Way!

:thumb: Gotta agree with ya LF13. I have played in a state tourn on just a high school field and watched them at UK and Applebees and it is the best atmosphere at Applebees. The kids love it just because it is a great field and for all the extras. As far as the distractions, how are they any different than the field crew dragging the field in between innings during college games, which several of the kids will be enjoying next season.

This all sounds like sour grapes to me and just some other reason to blame a loss on something other than the real reasons. My team lost and it wasn't for any distractions, we just ran into a hot pitcher and didn't play very good defense. But at least our girls did win the Ice Cream Eating contest, so BC didn't come away totally on the losing side

Man-alive!!!!! These are not BASKETBALL GAMES!!!!!!! This is FUN-BASEBALL! Everything that is done at the State Tournament Final Eight should be the highest level of fun and excitement. If you are people that want to get in and get out you are at the wrong game, time, and place. I would have to seriously question if you are "there-all-the-time" fans or the "every-now-and-again" fans. No way would I want to compete for attention with a hilarious ice-cream eating contest. Heck, I would have been watching it too and I have coached in basketball and baseball state tournaments. Some people even think they shoot too many fire-works off at a 4th of July celebration-HELLLOWWW!! We are a different breed in pure baseball and the AVERAGE fan just does not get it. The coaches should follow the guidlines given them and have the players prepared. If any players had "that-look" on their face then someone ignored what they were obviously told. Long-live all the GREAT SHANNANAGINS!!! [ hope I got that spelling right ].

... isn't the ballpark itself. Applebee's is a great venue and provides a big-time atmosphere for the state tournament.

My problem is the way the Legends' management treats the game. More than once, the start of the bottom of the fifth inning was delayed because the video-screen advertising bit and cheesy "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" went on too long, not to mention all the between-innings schtick that is anything but entertaining.

Why the Legends' mascot is there, I haven't a clue. Management insisted on announcing the Legends' score on Thursday night as the team tried to clinch a playoff berth, like anyone besides the Legends employees really cared, sometimes interrupting the flow of play.

This isn't a Legends game, where half the fans aren't nearly as concerned about who wins and loses as much as they are having a good time. This is the state tournament, where the focus should be on the teams and the game, not the cutesy promotions that can get in the way of the game.

My two cents ...

I enjoy every minute I'm at this ball park and strongly reccomend everyone to come out and watch
