Coroner identifies Florida woman killed in crash, Lander student - FOX Carolina 21

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Kentucky woman has been charged with driving under the influence after troopers with the S.C. Highway Patrol say a passenger in her car died when she rear-ended a tractor trailer.

The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County.

Troopers say the driver of a tractor trailer was traveling east when he slowed to exit at 18 B and Courtney Marie Hagedorn, 22, of Highland Heights, struck the tractor trailer.

A passenger, Samantha Giana Striano, 27, was in the 2004 Volkswagen Golf that Hagedorn was driving. She died on the scene.

Hagedorn was not injured in the crash, nor was the driver of the tractor trailer, troopers say.

Hagedorn, a soccer player at Lander University, has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death.

A spokesperson for the university said Hagedorn was the only Lander University student in the car.

Hagedorn has been booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

The crash remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol and the Spartanburg County Coroner's office.

Hagedorn appeared before a bond court judge on Monday evening. Her first court appearance is set up for Dec. 17.

The bond court judge granted a $10,000 cash bond and said Hagedorn must wear a alcohol tracking device. She will be subject to random drug tests, according to the judge.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Monday, an autopsy and external examination along with toxicology were pending.

Heard her lawyer say that she had not had a drop. How could they charge her with DUI? Did hear there was beer in the vehicle but without a blood test/field sobriety test can they try to pin a DUI on you? Was there suspicion other than having the cooler in the car?

I'm sure she is having a hard enough time. Pretty sure the gal that passed was pretty good friends of hers.

Maybe it wasn't alcohol that made her impaired?

Sad story though, that's for sure. This young lady was my daughter's big sister when she started soccer at NCC.
