As for the PK awarded... Since I posted my comments earlier, I have been told by two people (not from Cooper) that my comments were too generous. They both feel that the goalie made no play on the ball, was beaten, and was trying to drag him down but was not successful.

 

I think the red for the Cooper assistant was a botched call. Here is the explanation that was given.... "He made contact with the ball while it was in play". I agree that the linesman was not paying attention, I felt he had a poor match last night. Being on the other side of the field, I could not tell exactly where the coaches were standing, definitely not on the field though. This ball was probably headed for the other side of the track when the coach reached up to catch it. I am not sure what your angle was but one coach could not reach it and the one that did, and got sent off, is probably at least 6'3".

 

My only comment on a throw in.... They are given a LOT of leeway nowadays.

 

Your comments about #4 (Wend) from Conner are valid, very nice player, he will definitely be missed next year. Luckily for Cooper, #10 (Ross) will be around a few more seasons. He is a special player, very strong on the ball and has great composure for a Frosh, both goals in the second half were initiated by him.

Man I'm glad I started getting back into watching HS soccer. I watched both games at Conner last night and it was worth the admission.

The call you guys are talking about had me curious as well because my son plays for Holy Cross and at the Ncc game the ref issued a straight red for a defender taking out a player. My eyes are going bad but it looked to be the same ref that did both games, I'd like to know his explanation of things. I thought he called a great game so I'm sure there was good reason to not issue a red. I also saw a Cooper assistant get a red card and asked to leave the field, this happened after what looked like the ball was out of bounds and he attempted to catch it. From the way the other coaches were acting it seemed like the linesman wasn't paying any attention, I'd like to know the ruling on this as well. I've been away for a few years so let me ask you this, when I was taught to throw the ball in it had to go straight back then over the head, is it really legal to throw a ball from the side now, I see it all the time.

One more thing: last night confirmed that Snow if OPOY for me. That boy can flat out play. There were 2 other stand out in the late game for me. #4 for conner big strong fast has great vision and foot skill & # 10 for Cooper this young man is special, he sees the field so good and is so calm when in possession. One of the parents told me he was a freshman, keep an eye out for him.

Maybe it's different under high school rules but I thought FIFA allowed for cards to players only. Coaches or anyone else can be sent off the field of play but a card really isn't shown I don't believe. Maybe a current official can clarify.

Nfhs allows cards to coaches. Ussf no.

Congrats to Conner on a great season. In the last 3 years Conner's ending Maher Rank has gone from 94 -> 81-> 40, while season wins have gone from 7 -> 9 -> 11. No doubt led by a really nice group of seniors this year.

I heard possibly Thomas Moore but not sure how true that is. Know his parents well. Charlie is a great kid and a talented player. Good luck to him in the future.

I think that TMC is an option but pretty sure he is not close on a decision. Charlie has done some ID Camps and will be playing in some nice College Showcase events in the coming months so I am sure more options will present themself.

I guess this one depends for me. If there was any player that had a chance to save this then he should be gone even if he thought it was going out. You shouldnt be close enough to the line to even make this a possibly as a coach anyway. If it was a ball clearly going out and no one was attempting to play it, and he touched it before it was out then yes there is a card but not a red.

Valid point. Doesn't help that they are going to catch 10 different kinds of grief from random people that don't know what is happening as well as grief from people who know just enough to not know anything.

We had a coach (opposing, to be clear) in a club game in Buckeye given a straight red, after multiple warnings to shut up, for yelling, "just blow the damn whistle." Center ref slowly walked to their bench and dramatically showed the coach a Red held as high as he could reach.

Unfortunately some leagues a refs don't know the laws and still show the cards. It's actually just a simple "you are dismissed coach" in USSF.

I heard through an official, the red card was rescinded and changed to a yellow card. Anyone else hear the same thing?

Cooper coach was on the bench tonight, luckily it seems like logic was applied to the situation after the match was over last night.
