Mayfield re-takes the number one spot after a big win by CAL over DeSales. Is it a three team log jam at the top? Can Owensboro Catholic overtake them? Danville looks to be making a run, how far with that go? NCC and Lloyd square off for NKY supremacy, who wins that game? #9 and #10 battling it out, someone may drop of the Top 10 after that game, who will it be?

It was pretty obvious that MF would move back into the top spot when DeSales fell. I watched the CAL - DeSales game so I have watched everyone but OC and Danville in the top 6. It is my opinion, that this class is a lot more wide open than what I had originally thought. DS is physical, very physical, but not to the degree that I had assumed and their pass game is shaky but their QB is their best runner and not afraid to throw it though that cost them dearly against CAL. DS has a good defense though. CAL is not as physical as DS but is very balanced on offense and pretty good on defense and that young QB is deadly if given time. MF is balanced like CAL and appears similar physically and also has a very good defense. Murray appears to be every bit as physical as DS but is also not a very good passing team and they too have a QB that is their best runner. The Murray defense is also pretty good. Miles defensively for Murray has been the best defensive player I have seen so far in 2A this year. I would really like to now see the Ads, OC, NCC and a couple others. The DS @ CAL game is online if anyone else wants to see them and has not.

Danville is alot better than what some people think. Best team the ADS have put on the field in last 7-8 years. If they can stay healthy i believe they will make a deep run in the playoffs.

Ram, is this poll determined by a group voting?

It's curious that they have Mayfield #1 now. Is it because Mayfield only has one loss? A few weeks ago when DeSales lost, I thought Mayfield should have moved back to #1, but they didn't. I think the injury to Bright was the determining factor. At that time, Mayfield was ahead of DeSales and CAL in both the Calpreps and LIT ratings.

Now, CAL and DeSales are both ahead of Mayfield in the Calpreps and LIT ratings, plus Bright has still not played a down. Yet Mayfield moves to #1. Thoughts?

link to the game?

Yes

All computer rankings are taken into account, but also carefully judged for what they are, a very imperfect science that never watches a single down of a football game. The consensus with DeSales was that they had done enough with their early resume of wins and a lone loss to a pretty good Fern Creek team to prove themselves as a toss-up with Mayfield with the uncertainty of the Bright injury providing the slightest difference.

This is now two losses, shut out losses at that, for the Colts and some of the luster of those early season wins continue to erode away. CAL for the longest time has been a clearcut #3 but not viewed on the same level of DeSales or Mayfield. By contrast, their early season losses look better and better each week and now they have flipped spots into that toss-up, while Desales is now a step below the top two.

When you compare CAL and Mayfield now you have two teams with wins over strong 2A teams and both have played up in class for wins. The difference now is one team only has one "good" loss (Mayfield losing to McCracken) whereas CAL has lost twice to "good" teams.

Thanks ATLcat. The Bright injury doesn't play a factor anymore? Mayfield is struggling to score without him.

I sure do not follow what you are saying or questioning, Bright is now ready to return along with a couple of other less heralded players. Having Bright back is huge for the Mayfield offense that I can assure you.

Speaking only for myself and my viewpoint..not really. Mayfield should be able to win their next two games with their Middle School Running back if need be and by the time their next challenge comes around in Caldwell County Bright should be back in action and near 100%.

It is based on a group voting.

The group ranks teams based on how they think that team would do if they played all the other teams in that class today.

If you, or anyone else, want to believe the Calpreps or LIT ratings, the ones that have some crazy ratings, be my guess. But, I assure you the BGP rankings are normally much more accurate then any other rankings/ratings provided. We look at the results each year, and the BGP rankings beat all the other sources, every year.

As they should, the AP is tainted by voting for locals to often and the CPU ratings take a full season to absorb enough data to be meaningful though by season end they are pretty accurate. I can't think of any other rankings, are there any others?

Cantrell and various regional coaches rankings.

Cantrell is a CPU rating and like the Lit will be very good at the end but not until then. These various regional coaches rankings I have no knowledge of, where do we find these? I have not seen those in years
