10th Region: Rank the Districts

Featured Replies

A post in another thread got me thinking about this, but how would you rank the Districts in the 10th Region from 1-4?

37th: Bishop Brossart, Calvary Christian, Campbell County, Scott, Silver Grove

38th: Harrison County, Nicholas County, Pendleton County, Robertson County

39th: Augusta, Bracken County, Mason County, St. Patrick

40th: Bourbon County, George Rogers Clark, Montgomery County, Paris

With the top 2 pretty much interchangeable.

Here's how I go:

#1 - 37th

Not only have they won the last 2 Regional titles (Campbell), but they've runner-upped 2 of the last 3 as well (Scott). And except for this past season, the 37th had a pretty firm grip on the Class A title too (Brossart). This year, I think most would put Campbell & Scott as top five teams. And they might have the top 2 players in the Region with Wilson & Ohmer. Silver Grove & Calvary will almost always have a hard time contending in the 37th with those other 3 programs.

#2 - 40th

Prior to Campbell winning the last 2, the 40th won the 3 previous with Montgomery taking it in '13 & GRC in '11 & '12. MoCo was also runner-up in 2014. This year, most have Montgomery ranked 1st or 2nd. Great guards, plus the addition of Jerryd Jones from GRC. Paris seems like a solid top five team to start the season, and could be the Class A favorite. The Hounds have a lot of talent again this year, especially with Garrard & Wells. GRC lost a lot from last year, but there's some good young talent. Bourbon County also lost a lot, but they might be able to surprise some people again this year.

#3 - 39th

You have to go back to 2010 to find a non-37th or 40th 10th Region champ (Mason County). The Royals missed the Region for a couple of years and then were upset in the opening round last year. Their last Regional tourney win was a semi-final victory over Montgomery County in 2012. Augusta has been the most consistent team of late, in terms of qualifying for the Regional tourney, with 5 straight appearances. Bracken went in '13 & '14 as District runners-up. 2009 was St. Patrick's last Regional tourney appearance (I think). For this season, it seems Augusta, Bracken, & Mason have very little daylight between them. St. Patrick will have a hard time replacing Andrew Sticklen and I think you'd have to put the Saints at #4 in the 39th. Augusta returns a trio of talented seniors, while Austin Crawford & Jacob Hamilton make for a solid 1-2 combination at Bracken, & Mason has Pig Williams leading a group of youngsters. New coaches with each of the 3 teams, but Jason Hinson will be looking to take his 3rd 39th District team to a Regional Tournament.

#4 - 38th

Not since 2005 has this District won a Regional title (Pendleton County). The Wildcats were also the only other team from the District to have a runner-up since then (2011). No seeding has hurt the 38th's Regional tourney hopes, with Pendleton & Harrison often drawing each other. Had Michael Antrobus not left Pendleton County, the Wildcats would have been a 10th Region contender this year, but I think his departure really hurts their chances. Harrison County had one of the most talented teams last year & did upset Mason County in the opening round, but Thompson & Jenkins being gone will hurt the Breds. Nicholas & Robertson both lost some good players from last year and will probably be hoping for another PC/HC district draw.

The 37th has 2 of the top 3 players in the region and thats the district to beat

The 40th also has it share of good players but MoCo and Paris standout from the other two teams.

The 39th is about as close as I've seen it in a long time any of the top three teams could win it and this will be the best district to watch games in this season. All the games between the top 3 should be good close games.

38th

This district lost the most star power than any other for this season, with Harrison Graduating Jenkins Strob and Thompson, Pendleton graduating Lea and the Antrobus transfer, Cooper at Robertson and Newman at Nicholas. Its still a two horse race with PC and HC they will be 1 and 2 all season long

This^^

I would put the 40th first because its depth is far superior to the other 3 districts. The worst team in the 40th might be 20 points better than the worst team in any other district.

So who would be your worst team in the 40th and best in the other 3?

Bourbon is likely to be last in the 40th district. I think they will be significantly better than Calvary Christian/Silver Grove, St Pat, Robertson Co/Nicholas Co.

I would have Campbell Co, Mason Co (though that could be any of 3 teams) and Pendleton Co (slightly over Harrison) as the favorites in the other 3 districts (along with Montgomery Co a little ahead of Paris in the 40th).
