Red Devils win the 16th Region championship in a well

pitched ballgame from both sides.

Russell's Marissa Adkins pitched a seven inning gem in a

game played between the raindrops and lightning.

Too bad for the Lady Rams, congrats on a great season.:thumb: Congrats to Russell on a region title.

Great postseason run for the Lady Rams. Hate to see a little controversy in such a tightly contested contest. I would say that views on the call or maybe no-call is more accurate will be divided by whether you bleed orange or maroon. Good job Raceland and congratulations to Russell.

Close games always breed a little controversy.

LOVE THOSE LADY RAMS......

Look for a rematch next year. The Lady Rams have a very good team with I believe zero seniors and the Lady Devils only have two seniors.

The decisive play was the slide at home where Russell's catcher blocked the plate before she had the ball, then proceeded to drop the ball and ump called Raceland's runner out. This shifted the entire momentum of the game and stranded two Raceland runners on base. The ump knew he was wrong, quickly wiped the sand with his foot to rid the evidence and reacted so defensively to the crowd, I was embarrassed for him. He then called a second rain delay. I heard one man say that ump always has to be the center of attention. It is ok to lose, but to lose this way is an injustice to our kids and to the game of softball. It is time for that ump to move on. I've seen many games and calls he has blown, softball and basketball alike.

Looks like Raceland got the shaft in softball too. I wont say anything except great job lady Rams. I mention about the umps in the baseball thread and everyone says its sour grapes. But, it is sour when it happens to you.

I'm not blaming the umps, I was just stating the 'decisive play' that changed the momentum of the game, and at the time, the momentum was in Raceland's favor. Two earlier errors that lead to two of Russell's runs put us in a hole we had to dig out of. The play at the plate hurt our climb, but didn't decide the game. Good luck Devils at State. I know you will represent our region well.

 

I noticed after the Raceland/BC softball game, many of the players from each team stayed to talk. Several played on the KC Diamond Gems together in the summer for the last two years and are very close. Some of the BC ladies even came to the final game wearing Raceland shirts. It is nice to see the maturity of these ladies who know the competition is on the field but the friendship is still there when the game is over, win or lose.

 

One other thing: We have a very talented district and by far the toughest region around. Some of the district champ teams that showed up at regions seemed weak in comparison to our area district runner ups. I think this shows the dedication of our coaches and our players.
