Exactly. Everybody knew what Collins was going to be from the word go.

Wrong guys, they had to build a field and throw a team together. Yes that first year they did take some players from Shelby out of that Sr. Class. All West kids West Middle kids now. Heck, couple of years ago they didn't even have a field and had to play at Shelby.

 

It is just amazing to me that this game is being build as a world series game for spencer. 4 TV stations in one day. Big write up in the CJ...All because they are 5-0 with Collins coming to town. They really do hate Collins down there for some reason. I can tell you this, if it was Thomas Nelson coming to town there wouldn't be this much attention. Instead of Collins Titans, might want to start calling them the Yankees. (As in NY Yankees)

Poor pitiful Collins. Bless their souls.

 

Come on man. Embrace it. The program is a bonafide Top 25 program in the state year in year out. Nobody is downing Collins. Nobody is discrediting Coach Lucas.

 

But, you can't argue to be recognized with the best of the best (as Collins has already validated once), then try to pull the poor pitiful me talk at the same time. It doesn't work like that.

 

Everybody knew the program it could be. Coaches at programs with a lot of talent and resources often get hated on, and I've never understood that. In the end, talent is what matters. You better have it or you won't win.

 

Not everybody can drive a Porsche w/out wrecking it. Coach Lucas is to be highly commended.

Oh I agree... I am just surprised about how much attention this game is getting.

Just so much hype from the Spencer side of the county line. Just hope it doesn't get ugly after the game.

Going into the season, maybe, but it's justified right now. Both teams 5-0. Both teams are in what's arguably the best 4A District in the state, and probably one of the Top 5 in all of the state.

 

The past three years this game has been a slug fest. Spencer comes in not just 5-0, but leading the state in scoring and rushing. Both are Louisville-Metro area schools.

 

There needs to be hype from the Spencer side of things. If a community and school can't get excited for a game like this, then drop the sport.

 

These are the games that makes high school football what it is. Attention validated IMO, and I'm glad it's getting it.

Collins certainly didn't start from nothing, they were bound for success from the beginning with a beautiful school and athletic facilities, and being located in an area that will always produce talent. They did have to establish their own traditions and culture of the program, which obviously turned out pretty well. So while they did have to start up a new program, they had plenty to work with. It's a completely different situation than Spencer County.

Collins is actually 2-2, not 5-0, but I get your point. Of course Spencer should be excited for this game. They see it as their big chance to finally beat Collins, a program that has had a huge amount of success in a short time. It still remains to be seen if Collins is very good this year or if they still have more rebuilding to do, but Spencer County would love to beat them even if they were 0-10.

I think Collins is very good. Getting beat by Louisville Eastern who has more talent than you can shake a stick at every single year and Boyle County aren't anything to doubt yourselves about.

 

But, in a day and age where (with the exception of a few programs):

-If you are undefeated, "your schedule sucks".

-If you are around .500, "what the hell is wrong?"

 

It's easy to question your program, when all in all, it probably gets back to the old adage of, "You're never as good as you think you are, and never as bad as you think you are."

 

But, looking at things like that is way too boring, makes way too much sense and provides absolutely zero drama. So, we have to come out with some kind of ignorant hot air to spew. :lol2:

Handed the game to eastern with 7 TO's and few key kids out but what a come back.

Boyle, might be one of the best teams in the state and I don't think they will loose a game all year.

But I will play those guys to get better than playing some easy games.

I know it would mean the world to Spencer County to win a district title (like Coach Marksbury said in the article), but honestly I think last year was their best chance. They beat North Oldham, who was literally a play away from the state championship game, but couldn't beat Collins and ended 2nd in the district due to tiebreakers. Now you replace Atherton and Waggener with Franklin County and Shelby County and it gets a whole lot tougher. Spencer County can definitely win a few games in the district but I think last year was their best chance. Not to say they can't win it, because I don't think anyone has clue who will.
