District 5 – Carroll County (1-3), Gallatin County (2-2), Owen County (0-3), Trimble County (0-4), Walton-Verona (0-4)

 

The District 5 winner technically has homefield advantage throughout the entire 2A Playoffs... yet thusfar this may be the weakest District in the State Regardless of Class.

 

The teams have combined to go 3-16 with two of those wins against a Switzerland County, Indiana team who is playing their first year of 11-man football. The other win was against 1-3 Bracken County...who happened to also have their lone win against that same team from the Hoosier State.

 

So who winds up on top? Will District 5 have a single team reach the playoffs with a winning record? Will District 6 sweep the First Round of the playoffs?

Walton-Verona probably still wins the district. There is a chance they get swept.

District 6 –Holy Cross (Covington), Lloyd Memorial, Newport, Newport Central Catholic

 

Newport is not very good...but they have defeated Bellevue.. Bellevue beat Gallatin County 35-20 already

Is a five-way tie with everyone at 2-2 possible?

IMO WV will win the district, but not one single team from district 5 will make any noise in the playoffs. I will go so far as to say that 5 will struggle to notch even one win over 6 in the first round of the playoffs. The development of Newport and WV will be intetesting to track as the playoff picture unfolds.

These types of posts seem to pop up every year about District 5. It is true that this year these 5 teams appear to be down, but they have held their own in the playoffs in the past. None of these teams have beaten NewCath, but not many 2A teams in NKY have beaten them other than Holy Cross (state champion) a few years ago. District 6 hasn't dominated them as predicted by many.

 

It is very possible that they get swept this year, but I wouldn't count on that. I would also have to disagree with the statement that this is the worst district in the state, especially this early in the season.

1A District 3 – Eminence, Frankfort, Holy Cross (Louisville), Kentucky Country Day

1A District 5 – Berea, Bishop Brossart, Bracken County, Nicholas County, Paris

1A District 7 – Harlan, Lynn Camp, Pineville, Williamsburg

2A District 8 – Allen Central, Betsy Layne, East Ridge, Leslie County, Prestonsburg, Shelby Valley

3A District 7 – Breathitt County, Estill County, Knott County Central, Magoffin County, Morgan County, Powell County

I have no idea. I haven't seen most of them play, and I would bet that you haven't either. That's why it is hard to make those general statements about one district being the worst in the state. Unless they play each other, it is hard to make that statement.

Walton Verona takes it. They will turn the season around shortly. They have lost some close games. That will only make them better later in the season. And if Richardson can stay healthy.

Yep, that could be a sweep for District 6. In fact, it is almost a sure thing the three besides Newport win. It will be up to Newport to keep improving to complete the sweep.
