George Rogers Clark 2015/1016

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2015/2016 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from George Rogers Clark. Remember, please be constructive.

Did they lose kids to transfer? I heard 1 to Paris and 1 to Montgomery. I expected them to be a top 3 region team this year.

Yes Jones went back to Moco and Davis went to Paris before school was out. To be honest I have not clue what we will have this year. To my knowledge a bunch of short guards.

Would it be safe to say this may be the first year in the last several GRC may be the 3rd best team in their district?

Werent they third or fourth best last year?

Losing top scorers Damion King and Braxton Greene would have been tough enough for GRC this season (in addition to Luke Sharrock & Malachi Israel). But you throw into the mix the aforementioned departures of Jerryd Jones & Jordan Davis...well, it would appear to be a tough season on the horizon for the Cards.

I look for Jyles Anderson to be one of the top performers. He averaged 9.0 ppg last year and played pretty well. Jordan Menchen is a pretty steady shooter from the perimeter. Both are seniors with experience and talent, so the cupboard isn't bare. But I do look for GRC to be third in the district behind Montgomery County & Paris.

Jyles Anderson and Jordan Menchen will lead the way due to their varsity experience last season. It would be great to see Josiah Israel and James Cornelius return to the basketball team as they both have varsity experience. Wes Parks and Luke Cantrell will add some grit without having varsity experience. All of these players are seniors this year.

In addition, Ohmante Jenkins and Ronte Owens will have big roles as juniors.

Add into the mix the sophomore class that won the 10th Region Freshmen Tournament and you have the makings of a solid basketball team. Ryan Cooper and JJ Johnson were on the Varsity as Freshmen last season but were limited due to early season injuries.

Chase Taylor, PJ Williams, Tydarius Clark, Houston Goodman, Tristan Hamlin, Tra Hooten, Blake Pedigo, and Will Philpot are also part of this sophomore group that will be in the mix for playing time.

Good luck to Jones and Davis, except against GRC.

Nobody is taller than 6'5", but there are many good athletes in the 6'2" and 6'3" range. It will be fun to watch them this year. I look for them to surprise a lot of people this year.

On paper, this is the 3rd, or possibly 4th, best team in the District.

GRC was 2nd in District play during the regular season in 2014-2015.

1.) Montgomery

2.) GRC

3.) Paris

4.) Bourbon

Paris and Bourbon met in the District Championship with Paris winning it, 53-50.

Who is even close to 6'5?

There are several younger players (freshmen and sophomores) who are between 6'2" and 6'5".

I am excited about GRC basketball this year.
