Marquee Matchups Galore

This will be one of the most difficult weekend slates of the year for 2A Teams with numerous teams playing top ranked teams from other classes or stepping up to challenge quality big schools.

1. Mayfield at 3A #4 Paducah Tilghman

2. DeSales vs. 6A Ballard

3. Christian Academy of Louisville at 3A #5 Central

4. Murray vs. 5A Graves County

5. Owensboro Catholic at 5A #3 Owensboro

6. Danville vs. 3A #1 Boyle County

7. Newport Central Catholic at 6A Campbell County

8. Somerset vs. 1A #1 Beechwood

12. Butler County vs. 1A #4 Russellville

13. Leslie County at 1A Williamsburg

6 Teams Raked in their Class' Respective Top 5, 4 Teams Who Played For a State Title, 7 teams stepping up to play quality larger schools. When you include Glasgow, Monroe County, and Lloyd Memorial 14 of the Top 15 2A schools in the Bluegrasspreps.com 2A Rankings are either playing a marquee matchup from a lower class or playing up this week. Te lone exception? 10th Ranked LCA taking on Green County in a game that still has significant class implications.

Expect some losses, expect some statements.

Will Rex Flex?

Through two weeks Butler County's QB Rex Henderson is off to a remarkable start.

He has accounted for 636 total yards (458 passing, 178 rushing) and 9 TD's (8 passing, 1 rushing). This even despite a running clock and limited playing time against Logan County.

Butler County will be testes by Russellville and any hope of upset will rest on whether Henderson can once again take over the game.

Tigers Share The Love

Murray has been the most interesting statistical team thusfar with their collection of athletes.

Through two games six different Tigers have registered TD's and 12 different Tiger have touched the ball either rushing or receiving.

The Tigers take on Graves County and will look to improve those stats against a Graves Defense that enters the game allowing almost 420 yards per game.

Eagles Are Soaring

On the subject of yards per game, LCA has exploded in their first two games.

The Eagles have passed for 622 yards and ran for an additional 474 yards for a staggering average of 548 total yards per game. They also enter this week's matchup with Green County averaging 53 points per game.

HB Dillon Wheatley is off the a breakneck pace, he has ran for 301 yards and 8 TD's through the first two games.

The Fastest Thoroughbred In NKY Races

As outlined in the 2A Notebook earlier this week, the return of RB Jacob Smith to the NewCath lineup will be a sight for sore eyes. The Breds' offense has been abysmal and Smith immediately brings a dual threat option with homerun ability.

Campbell County is not exactly the Steel Curtain on Defense and allowed three different Highlands players to rush for over 80 yards.

Will We Have a New #1 ?

The Top 3 teams all face stiff tests and all stand a chance of losing. Despite 6A Ballard lacking a little number in front of their name, the Bruins are by far the best team DeSales has seen this season and many feel the Colts may be a slight underdog. Mayfield draws a Tilghman team who seems to be significantly improved and has the athletes to compete with the Cardinals speed. CAL will draw a Central team who is 0-2 and smarting from an upset loss.

If there was ever a weekend for a shakeup at the top this could be it.
