Cheetah Run - 5K

Featured Replies

Ran in this race yesterday morning at the Cincinnati Zoo. It was the 1st time I'd ever done a race. Was a lot of fun. Got free admission to the Zoo for the day too, so was a pretty cool way to spend a Sunday morning/early afternoon.

Anyone else run this?

How did you fare? I knowthe hill near the polar bears I would be rough.

Didn't have to run that hill. The course took you through the zoo, then out onto McMillian, Vine, and Forest Ave before re-entering on McMillian and finishing in the back parking lot (which is where it started). The Forest Avenue hill was a killer. Finished in right around 33 minutes. I was just happy I finished. :lol2:

My wife finished in the top 3% of women, and 7% of all ~1750 runners.

No, but sounds like a lot of fun. May try it next year if my schedule allows.

Wow. That is extremely impressive performance by your wife. May I ask what her time was?

Just guessing around 23 minutes or thereabouts.

Sure, I think it was 27:10 or right around there.

She did the Flying Pig 5k back in 2014, the first race she ever ran in, in about 25:15. She said the hill killed her along with starting out way too strong.

She's big into running. Started about 2 years ago, and is currently training for the Queen Bee (which is a women's half-marathon in Cincinnati in October). Was supposed to do it last year but suffered a foot injury that sidelined her for about 5 months just before the race. Assuming all goes well with that one, she's got her sights set on doing the full Flying Pig next May.

She was hoping to be in the 24 minute range, and was pretty disappointed with how it ended up.

Those hills can be killers. I try to run a lot of them in training because they seem to help me but they are tough. Sounds like she really enjoys running. That's great! I still have a long way to go but I like it and it makes me feel better to get out and run.

Tell her not to be disappointed. Many would love to have that time. Some runs are like that. Sometimes I will go out for a run and my time is not what I want it to be and a couple days later it will be much better. She will be eclipsing that 24 min mark in a future race very soon.
