Johnson Central 28 Cabell-Midland WV 21 (Scrimmage)

Closer than I expected. But its just a scrimmage.

I actually expect big things out of Cabell Midland this year.

They were one of the top 5 overall teams in WV last year and return 7 starters each way including the Donahue kid at DE who is going to WVU and possibly the best player in the State. They return their leading rusher and their best big play threat.

Capital steam rolled to a State Title and Midland played them within a TD. Capital lost the majority of their starters. The only team to play Capital closer was Huntington who CM split with.

I do too, they are always a good team. Just expected JC to steamroll them. But again, its just a scrimmage.

We all wait on JC vs Ashland!!! JC is good. Ashland might be better!!! Time will tell.

Both teams were very big, very athletic, and dressed alot of kids. Johnson Central was up 28 to 7 late in the final quarter before Cabell-Midland tacked on two scores. The Donahue kid was a monster, but JC did a pretty good job on him up front (no sacks, no tackles for loss). Bryce Workman had one rushing TD and at least 2 through the air for JC (yes, they actually threw the ball about 30% of the time tonight - Geordan Blanton caught one TD at least).

Cabell-Midland struggled running between the tackles on JC, but did break some big plays on the edge. They had some very nice looking athletes. Their passing game looked solid as well.

Great sportsmanship by both teams. Great game that will benefit both teams. No injuires either way. I expect both teams to make deep runs this season.

As a side note:

Belfry plays both teams in the regular season.

Should be a great set of games. Midland and JC are both very good, but so is Belfry. Great for football in the mountains! Does Belfry play Midland home or away this season?

Away

They have Knoxville Catholic, NewCath, Pikeville, Tates Creek, and JC at home... CM and Harlan County on the road

Tough schedule, but thats what you have to do if you wanna win state titles. Hats off to Belfry for getting their team ready (and hopefully injury free). I always enjoy the JC / Belfry game. Very knowledgeable and polite fans on both sides that bring alot of class to the stadium. Love talking sports with them!!

I honestly think this is JC's year... John Hardin is trending down a bit and just my humble opinion but JC would have layed waste to South Warren the past two years.

Havent got the see much of the teams out west, so I cant comment with confidence on how good they are (will have to take your word on it). This JC team is very good and with the new 4A alignment I predict two meetings between JC and Ashland (with the later carrying more weight than the first). This may very well be the year for JC, but you never know with injuries and a 1 and done format.

You could see multiple state championships from the mountain schools this year!

Sounds good, thanks for the scouting report. Belfry always schedules the best teams they can play, that's why they are where they are.
