We maybe in for a severe thunderstorm outbreak about mid week next week. Severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes could hit parts of Kentucky starting next Wednesday. The possible severe weather could start from WKY all the way to NKY and transverse the state on Wednesday through Thursday. This is still about 5 days away so things could change between now and then. Just wanted to give a heads up to everyone.

I'll be updating as we get closer.

Saturday morning update. This is the 5 day outlook map. It shows what I was talking about yesterday. As of now it looks like a damaging wind and hail event. It looks like this will be a Wednesday/Thursday event. As I was thinking yesterday.

It is kind of unsual to have the possibilty of a possible outbreak like this in late August. I'll be watching it closely.

This looks to be a late afternoon into the nighttime hours to Thursday morning event. One change is now most of the state except eastern and SEKY is in a marginal risk area. Those along the Ohio River are still in the slight risk area.

As of now, this looks to be mostly a damaging wind and hail threat. I'll update when the information comes in.

As of this morning the severe threat has diminished some. Almost the entire state is now in a marginal risk area for strong to severe storms tomorrow into Thursday. I will post another update this afternoon.

Update:

We are still looking at strong to possible severe storms Wednesday to Thursday. They look now to not be as widespread. Supercell storms are possible but more likely are disorganized multi-cell clustersand line segment of storms.

The main threats look to be damaging winds and hail.

Right now the strongest storms look to be in western Kentucky Wednesday evening also parts of south central and southeastern Kentucky into Thursday morning.

I'll update later today.

I assume this means no rain or storms for Northern or North Eastern Ky., not even a cool front for a day? No rain for 2 weeks here. Is it true we will be having Arizona type heat starting next week and lasting for awhile? have been hearing that

No that means the heaviest rain fall will be in those areas I mentioned. It doesn't mean the rest of the state won't see any rain.

I have seen the six day outlook and it does show above normal temps next week with dry conditions also.

Morning update:

We should see showers and thunderstorms increase as the day goes on today. A few of the storms could become strong to severe. They should contain heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning. The cold front that will bring us this inclement weather should clear the state by Thursday morning bringing us some drier weather for a couple of days.

It now looks like parts of Kentucky from around the I-65 corridor back to the west could see between 1-2 " of rain. The heaviest amounts look to fall in WKY. It is predicted that WKY could see 2".

Looks like Friday should be dry for high school football. Temps are forecast to be in the mid to high 50s Friday night after a high of around 80 during the day.
