Transferring VHS to DVD

Has anyone tried doing this themselves? There are lots of USB capture devices out there, and software packages for editing/writing DVDs. I was wondering if anyone has ever given any of them a try.

Years ago I tried.....bigtime fail . I gave it to my Father-in-Law (who is an IT expert) project finished in one day.

I have a Sony DVD direct DVD burner made to connect to Handycams and burn without a computer. It has a USB and FireWire input for connecting direct to camcorders as well as composite RCA jacks for other devices, I have lent it to friends to save recordings from their DVR. It works great, simple to use, and has a preview window when using RCA jacks or FireWire and sets up chapters and such automatically.

I had 2 different Sony VAIO desktops years ago that were supposed to capture video and it would work fine thru FireWire or USB but could never get the RCA jacks to work on either PC. A friend had success with a Dazzle brand capture device
