Suggestions for feeding my dog, part 2

Featured Replies

I didn't want to thread jack @coldweatherfan's thread.

I am looking for suggestions for a dry kibble for my 5 year old golden/sheltie mix. I always used Beneful, but the last bag made her sick (both of the first two feedings made her sick) and I know that there has been some concern with the brand. I've researched quite a few other brands for quality, but would like to see some of your suggestions and experiences.

I buy Earthborne Holistic, Meadow blend. No grains. I used to feed Lucky Natural Balance but had switched to Earthborne. Now...I know it's more expensive, but it's worth it. The dogs eat less and their coats are awesome. Levi had some skin issues prior to me taking over his care. Those are cleared up and he has some pretty spry days for a 12 year old.

If you have a COSTCO near you, the Kirkland products are excellent and not way over the top expensive. They consistently receive 3.5-4.5 stars by dogfood advisory. (Beneful is 1.5 - 2 stars)

Kirkland Signature is around $35 for 40lbs

Kirkland Nature's Domain is $45-$50 for 30-35lb bags depending on type.

Signature contains barley and brown rice, they are grains, but they are good grains.

Nature's Domain is grain free.

Rachel Ray Nutrish zero grain dry for our dog with sensitive skin. Kroger.

Royal Canin duck and potato hypoallergenic canned food. Vet.

Someone else recommended Nature's Domain.

Admittedly, I hate shopping at Costco and have let me membership lapse. However, I hope to be moving much closer to one soon so if that works out, I'll probably join again and will check out Nature's Domain.

Purina Pro Plan... They have it in kibble too.. Expensive but the best.

That's what I am currently feeding her and she seems to enjoy it. However, some of the consumer reports don't rank it very well.

I feed my gang Purina Pro plan for years. Oldest Lab is 16, so must be OK. If they could talk, they would say I just don't feed them enough.
