Raceland 7 on 7 tournament

Featured Replies

Any word on how their tournament went last night and today? What teams were there? Who looked good?

Raceland Varsity won the tournament yesterday and went 7-0 on the day. Looked very sharp on day 1. Ironton also looked good and lost to Raceland in pool play and lost to Boyd County in the semi finals.

Sheldon Clark and Greenup had two teams each. Raceland had three. Ironton had two as well. Lewis and Boyd had one team each.

Today, Raceland Varsity went 5-1 and lost in the semis to Fleming County. Fleming County and Ironton played in the finals and Ironton won. Rams looked a little worn down from day 1 and needs to hit sprints hard next week. Everyone looked sharp and did well.

Very nice finish for the Rams, especially since they scored better than Ironton, OH. on the first day

Nice showing for Fleming County considering what they have returning from last year.

Who QB'ed for Raceland?

Nathaniel Davidson QB'd for the varsity. They also rotated Damien Black in as well. Davidson is looking sharp. Putting a nice touch on the ball and delivering it where it gives the receiver a chance. Had a great first day. I honestly think he's going to be a great QB for the Rams. Had a few misreads but always gave the receiver a great chance. He also had a few back shoulder throws that were simply amazing. He will be a great 2 year QB if he wins the job.

^ If he throws well under pressure during the season then Raceland will be hard to beat.

agreed, from my looking at Raceland and what they have coming back as long as he can make good decisions and keep it good under pressure the Rams will be alright

Agreed. When you throw with a front five in front of the QB, things change.

Yes it does. How many will go both ways on Racelands defense?

Not 100% sure on that. Time will tell though. After camp, we will know a good bit more. Wallace will need to go both ways on the front line. Holbrook will most likely only play one way. That's all I really know for now.

Depth plays a big factor in Class A ball. How's the lines going to be?

How did Lewis County do? They lost alot from last year as well. Just curious how they looked since they are in Fleming's district.

Wallace has lost about 20 to 25 pounds and is running sprints better than he ever has. He is looking good. Jerome Hall will most likely play both ways as well. He has also lost about 10 to 15 pounds ad is doing well. Morgan Carmen will most likely be a defensive end as long as he can stay healthy. On the offensive side, Caden Townsend will start at center. But there has been some talk that they may move Wallace to a tackle. Whether that is true or not, we will see in camp. But if I had to guess, this is what they will try and start out with the first night of camp: Townsend at center, Wallace and Alex Niece at guards, Jerome Hall and Jared Manis at tackles. They return everybody on the line except Lucas Bradley last year. Another thing that may be talked and experimented with is moving Manis to just defense and putting Townsend at tackle and putting Justin Fairchild in at center. Again, all of this will be settled during camp.

I was unable to be there the second day to watch Fleming but Lewis won a few games. Had some trouble on defense running a two high safety defense and unable to cover slow-go routes. They also had some trouble covering seam routes down the middle. Need to improve on defensive secondary but still played well. Their offense has some growing pains and the QB has some trouble gripping the ball, in my opinion, but looks young. I don't know if he is or not but he did look young and, at points, looked very smart. Made smart decisions but could put them where they needed to be.
