This is just my opinion, and I may be way off, but I really think if the Reds were willing to move Frazier, they could almost pick whatever prospect they wanted off a contending team who was interested. I'm talking a top 5 prospect in all of baseball if they wanted to move him. The team that would get him would have him for a fraction of money this year, only $7M next season, and an arbitration amount in 2017 (probably around $12-$14M). That's a lot of control for a big time right-handed bat for a team in contention.

 

I agree you with that Todd Frazier would net a lot in return, although I think he earns $8+ next year. The point remains, though, that he is very affordable given his level of production.

 

I don't think the Reds trade Frazier, but I would certainly explore the possibility as the trade deadline looms and during the Winter Meetings. I do think it would be wise for the Reds to move Cueto and Chapman first, to see what they're able to get in exchange for those pitchers. If the return is solid, they may have an opportunity to reload and compete, at which point Frazier would become crucial.

I do not buy into the theory of getting rid of everything and start over. Teams like the Reds dream of having players that are as productive and cheap as Frazier. Trade him after 2016 if you want but not now

 

And get not even a fraction of what you could this year or this offseason. Trading him would accelerate the rebuild. It's going to be 2 years before this team will be close to competitive, or in other words, once Frazier is gone. Why would you not move him when his value will never be higher?

As far as organizational members that I refuse to trade: none. I'd probably be reluctant to trade Robert Stephenson, but everybody else is available for the right price.

I think Reds fans are going to be completely disappointed and underwhelmed with what Cueto will net them. The time to move him was last year at the deadline. They'll get a 15-20 range organizational prospect for him at this point most likely. May get lucky and get a couple teams to pit against each other and possibly drive the price up a bit, but for a rental, they won't get the haul most are expecting.

Doing some quick research, only one of the top 25 prospects in 2014 was traded number 18 ranked Andrew Heaney. I don't have time to look any more than that right now. Feel free to share with all of us the names of any top 10 prospects that were traded in recent years.

I would reach out to Houston and see how interested they are in both Cueto and Chapman. See if you could package them for a package around Domingo Santana and Brett Phillips. The Astros have a lot of young talent and have an excess of OF bats with Springer, Tucker (P), Santana, Phillips, Kemp, Rasmus, and the newly drafted Tucker (K), and Cameron.

Incredibly doubtful. The A's way overpaid IMO.

 

The top 5 prospects right now are Lucas Giolito (P - Washington), Corey Seager (SS - LAD), Julio Urias (LHP - LAD), Yoan Moncada (2B - Bos), and with Sano's callup, Tyler Glasnow (P - Pit).

 

No chance they move him for pitching IMO. Boston is out of contention so no need for a rental, so that leaves the Dodgers and Seager. They weren't willing to part with him last year for Price and that was with a year and a half of control, so I don't see them biting at Cueto. Now for Cueto and Chapman? Maybe, but I still say unlikely.
