softballdude22 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Can someone tell me how these girls are selected please? quite confused
rcole123 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I am curious about this also. My daughter received an all tournament award during our school season.
Lawnboy13 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 All State is in 3 classes determined by the KHSAA Track and Field Alignment. Miss Softball, All State, and Coaching Staff of the Year are voted on by the KSCA members. Each member votes for his/her own class and may vote for the other 2 classes.
softballdude22 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 how many girls from each team is nominated?
Boone89 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Up to the coach to nominate up to 5 I believe. Then only members vote
to old to matter Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 It looks to be all voting by people who does not know anything about 80 to 90 percent of the players. They are coaches that are update on some of their own region players only. They have no contact with other players in the state that they vote on.
Boone89 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 If your coach does not nominate his players then they will not be included on the ballot. This is a problem for NKY softball a lot of coaches do not participate in the state coaches association by attending meetings or voting for players. Lawnboy knows the numbers of how many coaches in the 9th are members its not a lot. Only a few attend the state meetings as well
Fish Master Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 You can see all the members and all the info that will help you understand this on kyhighschoolsoftball.com
to old to matter Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 The stats that you read are not worth the paper they are written on . A lot of them are numbers that a coach or some other person puts in the book to make a player look good. Most collage recuiter does not even look at them because they know a most of them are not correct.

Interesting take, so you are saying that the official scorekeepers are padding the statistics of the players ? Do you think that is because they want the numbers better for all tournament teams or scouts ? It's curious that you immediately went to recruiter that quickly. Welcome to the site !
heavy duty Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Stats are only as reliable as the person making the call. I have done stats for last 3 years for daughter's team, even this year after she had graduated, and it's been a running joke with some of the parents how hard nosed I am on scoring a game. "Defensive Indifference" is not a stolen base, nor is a passed ball or wild pitch (unless they were stealing on the delivery), a ground ball single bobbled by the RFer is not a double, etc. I take great care in scoring a game properly, because it's just my nature. I believe I'm on one end of a bell curve, and "psycho parent scorekeeper" is on the other, and the bulk of scorekeepers fall in the middle. I think most try to score a game right, but just don't know all the rules, get caught up in the emotion and speed of the game, or tend to focus on what their kid is doing on a play while something else important is happening. HS and Travel Ball are no different in these regards, in fact, I would bet HS ball is MORE reliable. The only stat that really matters is "Team Wins/Losses", everything else is just to aid coaching, IMO.

Great call on the Defensive Indifference (def. refers to when a runner advances a base on a pitch but is not given credit for a stolen base because the opposing team made no attempt to hold them at the previous base, or no attempt was made at the base they advanced to.)
hidinout Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Funny story about being all state in Ohio , small school division. Long story short version.. We had a pitcher ( a soph) in our conference two years that made 1st all state as an INFIELDER . She threw 3 games against us and went 0-3 and we run ruled them twice. To the best of my knowledge she pitched nearly all their games that season. Our pitcher ( senior) gave up less than 10 total runs , in 14 conference games , as we went undefeated . Our SS hit above 500 in the leadoff spot and had maybe 2 errors on the season. We had ZERO players get any type of state recognition . Funny the same coach who promotes his individual players also promotes his own team . He voted his team # 1 in the state poll every week this year , and they went on to win a grand total of 1 game in the post season. Coaches with agendas that screw over deserving players really hack me off .
hidinout Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 We had players in our conference that made 2nd team all state that couldnt have been 1 of our starting 9 .
