Berea job now open

I'm amazed they can field a football team there.

I'm amazed the coach would stick them in a bad spot this close to the season. Shows the kids that quitting so close is easy and not a good example.

I can't speak to that specific situation. I just know it's a small school that usually has the best boys athletes playing soccer in the fall, which has to be a huge challenge for Berea. Certainly losing a coach at this time can't help matters there.

Not ideal, but it happens. 20 years ago Bowling Green hired a guy by the name of Kevin Wallace in late June/early July, after having a coach that was previously hired in February after Coach Haley retired.

Wishing the Pirates the best of luck. They have a helluva complex for a 1A school, I'd say top 5 or so in the class across the state. Their field always looks in tip top shape, too...so, it's obvious there is a little bit of care in the community (I would think from going off the above).

come on mountain ref you have no idea what the deal was. And if you think after this year where what was it 50 coaches got fired by admins who have no clue, if you think a coach wont roll out in a min you are crazy. I know 3 head coaches and they have all said after the last couple of years how guys have gotten fired they are all on the lookout for the next job before the ax drops. NOW DONT BLAME THE COACH BLAME THE ADMIN for this because they are the morons who created this culture. And before any of you start spouting it is about the kids let me ask you this ?! Lets say you at your job ole Larry gets fired after 2 years ago his part of the office that he is in charge of was #1 in the company and lets just say that ole Larry lost his best worker and then 2 years go by and ole Larry's area has a down year and they fire him. Are you going to sit there and say ah to bad about Larry but they will never fire me? Well buddy you are the guy that didn't stands up in a fox hole in the middle of a battle in others words "you are clueless"!!!!!

I'm told he left to take an assistant job at Rockcastle.

Still yet it's bad timing for the kids who believed and has worked hard

But it does happen and unfortunate

Makes sense he is from Rockcastle and his kids were going to school there.

I'm always willing to cut someone more slack to go where their family is. Is it crappy for the team? Without a doubt, but I don't fault anybody for easing family strains.

I would too but from my understanding he lives in Berea, wife is employed by Berea Board of Education, but sent his kids to Rockcastle for some reason.

I'm familiar with both schools...Rockcastle and Berea. I've not heard yet about why he is leaving his coaching position at Berea. His kids have always attended Rockcastle as far as I know. He lives between the two districts and he has Rockcastle roots. I know he was an AP U.S. History teacher at Rockcastle when my oldest son took his class in 2011/12 and then he went to coach at Berea the next year which was the fall of 2012. His wife was a vice principal at the time and she moved into the Berea School Administration building that fall. He's a good guy and a better (tough) history teacher and his wife is a stand-up person as well. I've also not heard anything about him taking an assistant coaching job at Rockcastle yet, but, I've read in the Mt. Vernon paper this past week about where an assistant football coach resigned in the Rockcastle school board minutes.
