I just think he's in over his head and that's the bottom line. He should probably stick to pitching coach in the future when he is fired. Heck he probably won't have a choice.

Where is this Reds team going? Nowhere. We are into rebuilding mode. No manager is going to do anything with this mess. Joe Maddon is done if he is leading this team. Our most valuable commodity now is our young pitching. We need to cultivate the young guys and Bryan Price is one of the best in the business at that. No, he can't manage worth a lick. But he can get these young pitchers ready for the next guy in a year or so. Save the money in the budget, start rebuilding, groom the young pitchers then get rid of Price when the team can compete.

 

Joe Maddon was 61-101 and 66-96 his first 2 seasons managing Tampa Bay. He had a bunch of young nobodies on his pitching staff, nobodies at that time anyway (hindsight is 20/20, though). In 2006 James Shields was a rookie, Scott Kashimre was in his 3rd year, Edwin Jackson was struggling coming out of the bull pen, and Matt Garza was getting murdered in Minnesota. Maddon, at that time, was considered a nice guy finally getting his shot, but he was just going to fad away.

 

Just sayin'.

Usually the rebuild guy doesn't make it through the rebuild so I don't think this is crazy. With all of the young pitchers that will be coming through it makes more sense. My two problems if I'm a Reds fan is clubhouse culture/leadership and fundamentals.

 

This was always my biggest issue with the Redlegs before Rolen arrived and after his departure. I wish Kevin Youkilis still had a few years in him. A jerk like him is perfect for this Reds team. I love that the guys seem to have fun with each other, but somebody needs to remind them this is a job.
