He took Prestonsburg from mediocre to contender quickly. I have heard a lot of good things about him and I think he is looking for a job.

Wilcox and his staff gave Ashland year after year of success. Dwight Walter absolutely deserves his chance to take Ashland baseball into the future. He is a loyal and dedicated Tomcat, always has been and always will be. He has 14 years of varsity baseball coaching and would definitely lead the team in new directions. As the parent of a player, I know that these young men love and respect Coach Walter and would follow his direction without hesitation. He is the parents choice, the players choice, and should be administration's obvious choice too.

With Ashland National LL and Ashland American LL, there shouldn't have ever been a lack of kids in the program there at Ashland. Not saying that there was, just saying they have a strong youth league there.

You obviously haven't seen an Ashland LL game in years. It's pretty much nonexistent.

He probably did. Still doesn't change the fact that Ashland LL is AWFUL!!! And that is being kind. Baseball is a dying sport in Ashland, and the "My kid deserves a trophy too" parents have done nothing but make it worse.

Question, if youth baseball is changing, should the high school coach not be in tune with it? Did you know that the kids for Greenup that will be playing in the quarterfinals today in Lexington were as bad as you think the Ashland LL system is? When we played their teams we could call the score. Now those kids have improved in the high school program. Player development and youth league awareness are the areas that Wilcox didn't get done in my opinion. However, if the administration wanted a different landscape for baseball and didn't lay our their expectations to him and give him the opportunity to meet those expectations they were wrong. He should have been given the opportunity to create the landscape they wanted.

Those kids at Greenup weren't playing LL, they were playing on elite travel teams. So that point is not exactly valid.

If you call the team that played at the fairgrounds Elite then I must hold a different definition. They do have three kids on Greenup's team that didn't grow up there which help tremendously. None of our philosophical difference on this point matter. Greenup works to develop players and this was a weakness at Ashland.

Wilcox was in four region finals in last five years. Won two and lost another on a walk off homerun. Name another program with that much success in last five years. Guess he should have went to more youth league games and he could have won a couple more. Amazing.

How many players on those teams ended up being collegiate athletes? He was blessed with a group of kids who put in the time early. These kids came through the little league at a time when things were better. He won three regional titles in his 20 + years at Ashland, Logan as won 4 out of 9 at Greenup and Feltner has won 3 out of 7 at Lawrence. I am not saying he is a bad coach. He chose to coach a baseball team every year rather than run a program. Again the expectations for him should have been communicated. If they were not the administration has a black eye.
