Barbourville wins Diamond Classic

Featured Replies

Barbourville won the Diamond classic yesterday at South laurel. They beat Campbell County Friday night and Middlesboro and North Laurel yesterday. South beat them in their pool play 3-2 but they won the tiebreaker to advance to beat North in the championship. A real shocker here, but maybe they are just a little under-rated this year.

Barbourville beat Campbell Co. 2-1, the Camels beat South Laurel 8-7 in eight innings and South Laurel beat Barbourville 3-2. All three teams beat Middlesboro. The tie breaker in the pool was runs allowed. Barbourville allowed 9, Campbell Co. 13 and South Laurel 14. I was impressed with Barbourville, they played very good defense, got some timely hitting and only allowed a total of 10 runs in four games.

Old soda i was impressed as well but i only caught the last part of the South game and the North game. From what i was told they pitched 4 guys in 4 games, thats pretty good. But after this showing they are a top ten team in the 13, IMO.

Watched BEll Co. play in the North side, looked very good, Bell was 3-0: beat Pendleton Co. 3-1 Lincoln Co. 4-1 and NOrth 5-3: couldn't play in the championship game because of prom.

I heard that Bell really played well in this tourney. North blew the game with Bell in the 7th inning with 2 errors which winded up costing them the game, but was in the championship game due to Bell forfeiting so their players could attend prom.

In the championship game, I was told by some North parents that Barbourville just gave North a lesson in solid fundamental baseball and deserved the win the championship. Congrats to the Tigers on winning this tourney! It would have been interesting to see how a Bell vs Barbourville title game would have turned out as Bell did not lose a game in the tourney.

Middlesboro has now lost five games in a row heading into tonight's game against Whitely Co. Is their coach feeling any heat from the M'boro faithful?

How has Barbourville improved this much from last season? Nothing against the Tigers, but last year they were pretty bad. Their turnaround has been impressive, but how has it happened?

Jim they only lost their catcher last year. Worthy and Crawford were two solid junior pitchers and they added Good this year. Pretty much 4 out of their five bball starters start on the baseball team along with their 6th man. Bville needs to enjoy it though because they will loose their top 4 players including top 3 pitchers.

Upon further review, "awful" may be too strong a descriptor. But they really didn't impress me much the handful of times I saw them last year. Still, it seems they have improved markedly from last to this year — something that is quite commendable.

Worthy is just a Junior unless I am mistaken.

Worthy, cox, crawford and Good are all seniors

Josh Worthy is only a junior. Something that some people may find kind of unusual is that his brother(Kevin) goes to Corbin and plays soccer and tennis for the Redhounds.
