You may be correct on both counts, as I seem to remember something along the same lines on the former. But, I thought Sheffield was older than Gooden and maybe his uncle?

 

On the bolded, I know they grew up in the same neighborhood and were friends as kids. Not sure if they were at the same high school at the same time, but certainly seems logical. If they were, I would have been happy to pitch for that team.

This team is considered the best high school team ever in some circles. DeMatha put a team on the floor in 1999 that USA Today thought may have been better, led by Keith Bogans and Joe Forte. I think both won the USA Today national title.

 

That Dunbar team was certainly the best HS team ever prior to the rise of the academies and prep schools.

Gooden was Sheffield's uncle whom his (Sheffield's) family lived with. Gooden born in 1964, Sheffield in 1968.
