Prosecutors investigate Jerry Jones’s World Trade Center lease

Featured Replies

Prosecutors in Manhattan are investigating how a company owned by Jones got the lease for the observatory at the new One World Trade Center. The World Trade Center is run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which is controlled by Christie and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

At this point, prosecutors have only opened an investigation, and there is no allegation of wrongdoing. Christie has said his friendship with Jones began only after the Port Authority awarded Jones’s company the contract.

The office of the Manhattan District Attorney confirmed that it has subpoenaed records pertaining to “the procurement process for the award of the lease."

Can anyone explain this to us?

Can anyone explain this to us?

Not enough info in that article to explain much. It sounds as though it's part of a larger investigation into the possible improper awarding of contracts by the Port Authority.

Edit: Yeah that's exactly what it is. Just read the Dallas Morning News article that's linked as a source in the article you originally posted, Guru.

Would it be a conflict if Jones had been paying for Christies trips to follow the cowboys around at the end of the season.

I think this could turn out bad for Christie more so than for Jones

If the trips were used to coerce a decision to grant contracts to Jones's company, it would be bribery. How closely they can link it to Jones is the question?

Even if the trip was after contacts were awarded most places have a non gratuity policy dealing with those they are in business with. I would think New Jersey board of ethics, if they have one, would be all over Christie for this.

Could cost Jones the contacts too.

But it probably won't.

I just find those words together to be very, very funny.
