April 2, 201511 yr Another former Bengal is rejoining the team, and with that, the Bengals are no longer in the market for a veteran backup quarterback. Cincinnati has agreed to a deal with Josh Johnson, an unrestricted free agent who was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014. Johnson was previously with the Bengals in 2013, where he backed up Andy Dalton under offensive coordinator Jay Gruden. Cincinnati Bengals signing Josh Johnson - Cincy Jungle
April 2, 201511 yr So much for the AJ McCarron pep talks, they were obviously just talk... Never a doubt...
April 2, 201511 yr So much for the AJ McCarron pep talks, they were obviously just talk... Huh? I will be shocked if Johnson is the backup qb when the season starts, actually it wouldnt surprise me at all if he is cut before the season starts. This signing means nothing but just an added arm to throw a ball during training camp. This IMO shows the Bengals are set to have McCarron as the backup qb this year.
April 6, 201511 yr I liked AJ at Bama. He was a winner. However, the knock on him has been arm strength....same as Dalton. Josh Johnson looks like a football player. He's got a huge arm but just never put it all together. Any way we can create a cyborg QB?

What we may be able to agree on is neither AJ or Josh figure into the Bengals plans.
April 6, 201511 yr Andy or AJ would both be better QB's with a TE that could catch the ball (Eifert), a TE that would not drop easy balls or false start (Gresham) and a slot receiver that could make tough catches (Sanu). Take into consideration a strong run game, a strong short pass offense and a deep threat like AJ Green and either would be ok (as long as they didn't think they were Marino or Elway all the time).

How about a QB who knows how to go through his progessions and doesn't just stare down his receiver that is based off of his pre snap read. How about a QB who can handle the pressure of a big game? Shoot the Pro Bowling was very telling. Every QB there was able to play just fine and hit WR's that they barely practiced with. When Dalton gets in there he looks just like he always does with the Bengals. It was very telling the difference between the true Pro Bowl QB's and Dalton.
