What I heard they were missing their #1 pitcher. I heard a rumored reason why but I won't say because I don't know the truth.

PH2, I'm sure it was unintended but your post may insinuate to some people that McCracken won the game off of Woodford's backups. I'm not looking at the stats but McCracken scored 3 off Woodford's starter in the bottom of the 3rd and I think 3 off of her in the bottom of the 4th before scoring 11 more runs off the 2nd pitcher and backups after that, then 2 more in the 5th for the run rule. Who would have thought about an outcome like this after Woodford had a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd?

 

I appreciate the fatigue and injury factor, but if you make it to the championship game, you play it to win it, otherwise, why hang around. You had the preseason #1 team down 9-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning. McCracken played the same amount of games and had 2 injuries during this game. McCracken's bench also played a major role in this game and tournament. To their credit, Woodford teed off on McCracken's #33 Ridofi, but #1 4 Dodd came in and shut Woodford down. Dodd had held a powerful Madisonville North Hopkins to 1 run in the previous game and shut Male out earlier in the day. Also, McCracken was without their #1 pitcher (in my opinion) Chapman for the tournament. But if Chapman is #1 , Dodd is #1 .1.

 

Woodford Co is an awesome team, they came from behind and beat the defending state champs, so no disrespect is intended here. As happy as I am for McCracken, I feel bad for the young ladies of Woodford. Hope these two teams play again in June.

 

In reference to Heavy Duty's previous post, I bet most teams in the state would love to have McCracken's pitching. Woodford's too.

No they won it and I gave them props. Woodford simply did not have the extra pitching to hold the lead. The pitchers were pulled because they had nothing left. Not taking anything away from McCracken at all. Six games in one day to start the season is a bit much, regardless of depth. In a way I am glad the game ended in less than 7 innings for everyone's sake. But how it got out of hand was unfortunate.

I agree, it's great to have that many good teams in an early season tournament, but 6 games in a day is a lot. McCracken had the late game Friday and an 830 a.m. game Saturday. Friday's game against Daviess Co was McCracken's 1st game of the year other than a scrimmage game against University Heights. By the way, #10 from Daviess Co pitched a heck of a game when they beat us Friday night.

Friday's game was Woodford's 1st as well, other than an intersquad scrimmage on Wednesday. Took them a few games to hit because they just hadn't seen live pitching and they saw plenty of the best right off the bat. Have to give props to Woodford and Christian county's pitchers who dominated in an 8 inning scoreless tie in pool - each starter went the distance too. Fun weekend.

It was a fun weekend, glad I only live 30 minutes away. Bet that was a tough ride home for both teams. I'm biased because I'm glad neither of the Tennessee teams made it to the championship game. Love to watch the good teams compete.

Teams I was impressed with Scott Co.; Daviess County; Madisonville North Hopkins; Teams that I was disappointed with Central Hardin; Owensboro Catholic, but the good thing is it's early, and I'm sure come the end of May the cream will rise to the top!

I would add Woodford Co in the list that impressed me. We had a let down game against Butler Co took a 5-0 lead then started to relax came back to bite us.

Mercy has a solid number 2 pitcher now Freshman Lexi Ray. She got the win against Green Co.

How about some more details?

Was not at the game but the story I heard from a couple of people was he argued a check swing third strike. After the third out, he came to get the bat and apparently said something to the ump as he bent over and got tossed. That's about all I know. Didn't see or hear any of it or why he felt the need to pull his team on what was probably a routine bad call, if that's the case. Unfortunate for the girls.

No doubt Mercy has a pitcher to help Thomas and Mercy make another run at the state tournament this June. Freshman pitcher was 2 - 0 this weekend, both shut outs. Beating Green Co, and Anderson co.

Male topped Holy Cross (Lou) 3-1 in 5 innings. They will play McCracken this AM.

McCracken's pitching, I thought, was their weak link last season. Depth and hitting are definite pluses for them, but they had no pitchers that were what I would consider "studs" last year.

Holy Cross' pitcher looked very good. I believe it was their senior, Gailor.

Saw a little of Mercy at opposite field playing Green County. Mercy won 2-0 in 7, and was probably indicative to what they will do this year, which is the same as last season. Not score many runs, and ride Thomas in the circle until her arm falls off. With a pitcher of her caliber, it's a useable strategy, but I'd risk trading early season "W"s for tournament innings on her arm, and use a different pitcher as the middle of the season progresses, personally.

Won't make it down today, so I'll check back here for some details, hopefully.

 

No need to worry about Thomas' arm the game you saw against Green co was pitched by freshman pitcher. Who will be giving Thomas solid back-up. That freshman was 2-0 for the weekend.

Never said their pitching was weak. Said I thought last season pitching was their weakest link.
