Thinking about a tablet

Featured Replies

I am needing a new computer but wondering if I should skip a

laptop and get a tablet instead. Microsoft has one that can attach to

key board which I would like to have. Questions I have are:

1) How much storage do they have? I am assuming I would need to get a

multi GB thumb drive to store stuff on? Not the end of the world,

just curious.

2) Can you only connect to the internet with a wifi? Or if you could

only attach with CAT5 (or whatever you call the cable you hardwire

network connection to) can you do that also?

3) Do tablets have plenty of decent USB ports, ie atleast two?

4) Can you hook a second monitor up to a tablet?

Anything else you all can think of that I would be missing out on if I got a tablet that a lap top only can provide? Thanks all.

First question I would ask you, is what do you plan on using the tablet for? Then we could get the answers.

Personally, I love my iPad and use it a lot, but it has it's place and I still need a laptop. I see them as two things I want, but I don't want to replace either one with the other. That's just me.

I'm a weird one.

Laptop= MacBook Pro

Phone and Tablet= Samsung. Tablet is a Samsung 10.1. I've had it a little over a year and love it (wife has an ipad, she is all Apple).

I'm the same way with my tech stuff that I am with my politics. I like the good in both.

Not a gamer so don't need massive amounts of memory or processor speed. It will mostly be for email, web surfing, but I may also use it some for work. Now that I think of it, I don't know how well it would do with Word or Excel files. Would that point me in the direction of one that uses a Windows Operating system and hopefully comes with or can down load versions of Excel and Word? The possible need for Word and Excel may be pushing to a laptop.

Given your requirements, you might want to look into an ASUS Transformer. It's basically a 10.1" touch screen laptop with a removable keyboard. It runs Windows 8.1, has 2GB of RAM and is equipped with least a 32GB SSD hard drive. I like it better than a Surface Pro, myself.

Price runs between $249 and $349 depending on where you shop and how much hard drive you desire (32GB or 64GB).
