What region officials are calling the 8th?

UNUSUAL: Only one of the three region "Deans of Coaches" will be in attendance. Glen Drury of Anderson County (longest-tenured coach in 8th region) and Steve Simpson of South Oldham (third longest-tenured) are on the sidelines.....only Jon Jones of Gallatin County (second-longest tenure) will be in New Castle.

What qualifies one as a "Dean of Coaches"?

11th/10th

Officials are from the BBA regions 10 and 11

Collins has a nice resume but did los by 25 to Oldham.

Dean of Coaches...would mean ' years coaching in the 8th region.....

Dean of Coaches.. would refer to the number of years a coach has coach'd in the 8th region...Drury, Simpson as well as Jones have coached the longest in the 8th.. word is Jon Jones may be getting 'out' of coaching at the end of this year ( too many other school duties)

Good question. I was just referring to two things: 1) these are the three longest-tenured coaches in the region. Each of the three has been at his school a LONG, LONG time. Each is extremely well-respected in the region. and 2) All three of these coaches have been very, very successful at getting their teams to the region tournament.

So it's a real rarity to see two of them on the sidelines.

Jones, Drury, and Simpson - also three of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. If my sons had played basketball (one played HS baseball and ran track/X-C, and the other currently runs X-C / track), I would have considered it a privilege to have had them coached by any of these three gentlemen.
