DragonFire Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 The clear draw winner is Bowling Green. While Clinton County is conceivably the hardest first round opponent they could get, they drew opposite Monroe County, which along with Warren Central who could not be on their side, are the only real threats to the Purples. The way Bowling Green is shooting, they were already the favorite, but this sets up nicely. Monroe County got the best first round matchup they could have had, but may have preferred to go ahead and open with a 14th District team so as to not have to go back to back. It is conceivable, possibly even likely, that they will have to defeat both Warren Central and Bowling Green on back to back nights to win the region title. Warren Central avoided having to play Monroe County first, but the draw was about as bad as they could have gotten. They will likely have to beat Monroe County and Bowling Green on back to back nights, just like they had to try to do last year.
DragonFire Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 BTW, Clinton County has been the most snake bitten team in the history of time when it comes to these draws. Every year they have a solid team that is capable of advancing given the right draw. In 2012 they drew the region favorite Glasgow in the first round, losing in overtime. That was after winning their district while Glasgow inexplicably lost theirs. In 2013 they did avoid the favorite Warren Central in the first round, but probably got the #3 team in Barren County. Had they won that game, they'd have had to play Warren Central in the semis. Not quite as bad as 2012 but not great. They lost by 5. In 2014 they won their district and drew Warren Central, the preseason favorite that was coming off an embarrassing loss to Bowling Green. They lost by 16. And now they get the favorite Bowling Green right out of the gate. A Bowling Green team that is playing AWESOME by the way.
laker55 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Everything is set up nicely for BG. should waltz into state tourney again.
BIG BLACK JACK Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 BG will waltz into Saturday night yet again.
Doubletake1906 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Everything is set up nicely for BG. should waltz into state tourney again. I would not jump the gun so quickly.... When they play WCHS or Monroe in the championship game it will be a battle. And surely the coaches of WCHS will have game planned for the little guard who has killed them the last 2 games by then.
laker55 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 One would have to see the tourney as a tremendous disappointment if BG does not waltz in with the draw they have
Doubletake1906 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 One would have to see the tourney as a tremendous disappointment if BG does not waltz in with the draw they have They still have to play Central again.... How do you not understand that??? They can Waltz to the championship, but they still have to play WC.
laker55 Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 BG beat WC by double digits the last two times they played them, and the way BG is shooting......nuff said
GoHardITP Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 The proverbial 3rd time could be the charm. It actually is very tough to beat a team three times in a season if there is not a complete mismatch of talent. Two teams with near equal talent tend to eventually have a different result the more they play, it is just the odds or nature of the game. The fact that BG is on a hot shooting streak can be a double edged sword. What happens is the game of basketball will deal a night that shots just do not fall and BG could be off a bit? What if the open looks turn into challenged shots or the up and down game produces tired legs. I have no idea if they play a third time who will win, but to write it off as a waltz because they beat WC by double digits in two previous meetings seems wishful thinking. I doubt the coach or players will enter a third rematch with that approach and if they do it could spell trouble. They should be confident, but not taking a third game as a matter of formality.
DragonFire Posted March 1, 2015 Author Posted March 1, 2015 BG beat WC by double digits the last two times they played them, and the way BG is shooting......nuff said Really only this last time was that type of game. The second game was a two point game with around 2-3 minutes left. The Purples hit back to back threes and then Central had to foul. But the shooting is definitely a concern. Bowling Green has shot 58% from the field the last two times they've played. In each of the last two games they've also hit more free throws than the Dragons have shot. This last game, another big tipping point was that Bowling Green rocked them on the boards. All that said, to call it a waltz if they play again? No. Two of the three games have been a battle throughout and in this last one, it was really just that the Purples dropped the roof on them in the second quarter. Central simply couldn't get to halftime fast enough.
