Lexington Catholic QB

Featured Replies

Lexington Catholic has an outstanding group of wide receivers returning. Any word on who,ll be getting the ball to them?

From what I have seen from last season, the player the might lead the Knights at QB will be the kid that played wide receiver last season, Andy Thompson. They have other young QB on the roster that saw mop up job and very athletic as well.

Like Beach Bumm said it will probably be one of the receivers from last season, senior to be Andy Thompson, moving over to QB. If he does make the switch Catholic's offense will look different next year as he is a very good athlete but doesn't have the arm of a Reese Ryan. Andy was the backup last year and when Reese got a concussion versus Bryan Station last season Andy ran for like 160 yards in about 2 and 1/2 quarters.

The other 2 contenders would be junior to be Kirk Fagot or sophomore to be Greg Couch. Both of them can run and throw but I don't know if either are ready to be the starter this season. Spring practice will be interesting to watch for those 2 as I know Thompson plays baseball so a lot of reps will be available.

Whomever is selected to be the QB will have the benefit of a lot of returning players on Catholic's Offense. Jaylen Jones is a D1 recruit at RB (unlike some on here I don't toss around that term much) JJ Ogbogu and Donovan Morris are back at WR, and the O-Line is returning 3 starters and others who were in the rotation. Just need a solid triggerman.

Hey Knight, I heard about an incoming freshman QB from their middle school team. Suppose to be good but I am sure he his not ready for that level. Can you confirm that?

The starter for next season at QB is none of the guys you named. Andy will still be a playmaker at WR and special teams but the starting QB won't be him.

Are we getting a transfer then? Those were the only other 3 QBs on the roster last season.

The 8th grade team had a kid who was big and had a good arm last year. From what I've heard he had a lot of potential but is not close to being ready for Friday nights.

I didn't think he would be ready for Friday Night Lights. Someone from church had mentioned him and though you might have an inside scope. Looks like LEX has some inside info on who might be the signal caller is for Lex Cath, please do tell. Like Knight mentioned, only those name mentioned are the only one on the roster unless it's a transfer QB.

If it's a transfer, wouldn't he have sit out the 2015 season?

If the person was to transfer from across town you're right he'd have to sit out a season. If the individual has moved from out of town and now lives up here then that individual can play for the school.

What if that transfer player never played varsity only freshman and maybe JV and decided to transfer to another public or private ( IN TOWN ), will he be able to play at the new right away? it might be a LEGEND-ry leap. Wink wink.

If the public/private agreement between FCPS & the city privates is no longer as I have heard it is, a kid could transfer & play @ LexCath this season (IF) he meets one of the requirements that are listed on the KHSAA transfer; (Bonafied Change of Address) being the big one.

If kid lives in a house in a public school district & plays varsity for them & the parents sell the house or if they rent an apartment & the lease runs out & they move from location A to location B (where location B is anywhere outside of location A attendance area) then they can transfer without penalty.

technically, they wouldnt even have to move out of the attendance area, but have a Bonafied Change of Address from one tangible address to another, BUT I would say that it would make it a much easier transition if they did leave the attendance area district.

Since LexCath doesn't necessarily have a boundary within Fayette County, if the student moves to any other address & can prove it with paperwork from the end of lease & signing of a new lease or sale of a house with a purchase of another house/rental agreement then it would meet the KHSAA guidelines as BCoA.

We have been spoiled over the years with our play at Quarterback, so as long as there is some patience we will be fine next season. My concern is the defensive side of the ball. A new system and a lot of starters graduated from a team that gave up too many big plays to advance to the state championship. That's the expectation so we have to demand excellence in all 3 phases in 2015. Go Knights

Man you dance around that QB question LOL. Anyways, I have the info on that situation so it's all good. As far as the defensive side, Lex Catholic will be just fine. Catholic has never been known as a wrecking crew defense, they are more like a " Bend but don't break defense ". And as far on who is returning... From what I saw last season, D-line will be solid ( #50 , 11 #92 ) all returns, secondary will be ok with 1 corner return, but that LB core will be the highlight. Knights had several fill in during all the injuries last season. Foster, Pedrochi, Sharp all started numerous games and were solid. 1 of the twins ( not Thompson's ) and Lauderbach will fill in well for graduated Mitchell and Couch.

As far as who will be the signal caller, as soon as they get those returner and perhaps that ONE, develop them early during spring football... Knights will be just fine.
