Best of the 9th Region

Featured Replies

Just a question about Perkins for coach of the year...why do you feel he is coach of the year? He's had 4 impact transfers over the last two years. Are you surprised they are that good? Where would HHS, HC (which also had 1), Ryle, ND or Boone be with 4 impact teansfers? That's a legit question for deciding a coach of the year in my opinion. For me, it should be who did the best job with what the had. Not necessarily who won the most. That's not a knock on Perkins. Just think there might have better coaching jobs done this year. I really think NCC has really over achieved this year. That might be where I landed for COY.

Just a discussion. Not hating at all. By now none of us would have any influence on it anyway!!

You make a very GREAT POINT, but I won't go into the transfer thing we can leave that for another day.

Start a thread and lets talk about it...

Is there a transfer conspiracy I don't know about?

Personally, I like what a lot of you have posted. DG21, I especially like your COY.

Whether its right or not, I don't know, but no one hardly ever gets more than two players from one team voted on a all region team, unless your say...E'town. Because of that, I am guessing, the actual list will look something like this. (The players below POY are not in any particular order)

Turner-HC (POY)

Mayhaus-HC

Graves-HHS

Adler-HHS

Tubbs-Holmes

Harris-Holmes

Davenport-NCC

Ware-NCC

Switzer-Boone

Tibbs-Dixie

Held-Cooper

Schwartz-Ryle

Johnson-Beechwood

Worford-Ludlow

Neace-St Henry

Stoll - COY

I think if any team does get three, it will probably be Holy Cross with McClendon....(please don't shoot me )

If its like all the other all region teams, some very good players that have played at a high level this year will slip through the cracks.

And who out there has the actual list. Someone does.

I agree with what you have said. You won't have any more than two. It's like the bell curve.

I am not sure who, but someone in the thread made a good point about what a person means to their team and about them winning without their best player. Just a comment and observation from watching a lot of girls' ball this year. D. McClendon may not be considered the best player on the team as those honors are bestowed (and rightfully so) to D. Turner, but if HC doesn't have McClendon, they are not as successful of a team this year. It was evident in several games that when she leaves the court, generalship drops for them. I like all of the players because they play hard and leave it all on the court, but she is the catalyst that calms them amongst the storm. Ask the teammates.

There are so many other good players that haven't even been mentioned[/b]...just full of talent.

Start with Ally Johnson (Beechwood), Mallory Schwartz (Ryle) and McKenzie Leigh (HHS) really only being mentioned once so far. All 3 are outstanding and could very easily take the spot of any of the kids mentioned so far.

But here's a list of other very good players that haven't even been mentioned. Not player of the year candidates, but very good players. You give me my choice of the two team of 8 out of these kids and I would have two regional contenders. Just look at all the talent in the 9th. You can almost make an argument for everyone of them! That's crazy!

Zoie Barth -HHS

Haley Coffey -HHS

Alex Combs -HHS

Haylee Smith -ND

Hillary Hellman -ND

Jenna Martin -ND

Taylor Gambrel -Conner

Savannah Jordon - Conner

Carley Lange -Ryle

Madison Jones -Ryle

Aimee Jump -Ryle

Juliet McGregor - Ryle

Hailey Anderson -Cooper

Kira Ross -Bellevue

Tori Wofford -Ludlow

Haley Warndorf -Ludlow

Lexie Aytes -Villa

Sadie Moore -Boone

Jordon Miller -St Henry

Kylie Orr -Newport

Jayneace Stovall -Holmes

Tyrah McClendon-Englemon -Holmes

Amori Gulley -Holmes

Laila Johnson -Holmes

Abby Hassert -HC

Aleah Tucker -HC

Cessie Mayhaus -HC

Devin Cheatum -Lloyd

Couldn't agree with this more. Most impressive is the depth of so many 9th region teams. Others may disagree but I think there are a number of 9th region role players that would be the go to players on many other teams outside of the region. May be pure lucky times for the 9th but I believe it has more to do with strong AAU programs in the region over the last several years which has led to increased interest and skill development. I think you have a strong list here. Interesting thread to complement best players could be go to role players in the 9th...because I really think the region is loaded.

With that being said: The 9th Region Tournament Should Be A Good One!!!!

The ninth is talented, but is also top heavy.

Sure, the top 3 teams in the 9th are very strong and very deep, however there are several teams that are not very deep at all. A player shoe horned as a "role player" because they are on a "deep" team, that has potential to be a "go to", would not have to go out of the ninth at all. There are "many other" teams within your own region where they could go and be put in a larger role and asked to carry a bigger load.

My problem with saying "other regions" is that there are talented deep teams in other regions also. Likely, those players find the same role, again, unless they went to one of the less deep teams in that region also.

I will also say this, some times a "role player" looks to have more potential because of the talent depth around them. You take them away from the talent, and put them in a place where there is no help, then perhaps their overall game and numbers go down.

I do get what you are saying, but I don't think just switching regions would bring an automatic change.

I am a big basketball fan but hate these awards. Basketball is such a team sport and should only be considered as such. One superstar never makes for a great team.

Several coaches have minimized the individuals and maximized the team and those three teams happen to sit at the top of the heap. Give the nod to anyone of the the three coaches as it will be well deserved.

Also have a lot of girls in the region playing out of position who have done really well for their team. Although we know who will be in the running for POY, its ashame these others girls won't be recognized.

Best team: Highlands

Coach of the year: Jaime Richey

POY: Coffey (HHS)

How's that for a homer???

In all seriousness, I was thinking about this today. I would not want to have to vote on this this year. No matter what you vote, there just aren't enough spots for the talent we have in the 9th! I came up with a list but I wouldn't dare post it because the more I thought about it, the more names came to mind! I'll just let someone else do it and take shots at it!!!

At least you are honest.
